Review: Sometime Zodiac 44, trip and The Trilogy Tapes contributor Buttechno (real name Pavel Milyakov) kick-starts 2019 with a collection of what he calls "Minimal Cuts" on Anthony Naples and Jenny Slattery's fast-rising Incienso imprint. Although none of the four tracks explore minimal techno pastures, there's plenty of hazy hypnotism and cheeky nods to dub techno to be found amongst the drum machine beats, wayward electronics and funk-fuelled grooves. Check, for example, the suitably heavy sub-bass, lo-fi drums and alien electronics of "Orient ACD", the dub funk/deep house/dub techno fusion of standout cut "Dub Hole Funking" and the loose, languid warmth of the suitably trippy (and rather fine) EP opener "Dubber Funk".

Review: Given his success in recent years, it's hard to remember a time when few had heard of Brian Pinyero AKA DJ Python. That was certainly the case when he first released Dulce Compania, his debut album, back in 2017. The set was an undeniable success, not only establishing his name but also a trademark sound that combined intergalactic deep house sounds with drumbeats heavily influenced by a variety of global rhythms (most obviously reggaeton). If you missed out first time, it's worth grabbing this vinyl reissue. Highlights include vintage ambient house style shuffler 'Todo Era Azul (Siempre Dub)', atmospheric broken house workout 'Acostados' (where field recordings of distant traffic rise above fluttering synthesizer loops and delicately programmed percussion) and ultra-deep and positive closer 'Yo Ran (Do)'.

Review: Melbourne duo Sleep D has been one of the underground success stories of the decade, building up a formidable catalogue of singles via Analogue Attic, Cuckoo Music and their own Butter Sessions imprint. Here they deliver their debut album on Incienso, a ten-track collection of hardware-driven workouts that gleefully mines dance music's early '90s period for inspiration. There's much to set the pulse racing throughout, from the hip-hop/ragged acid fusion of "Danza Mart" and the pitched-down neo-trance warmth of "Red Rock (IV Mix)", to the experimental ambient haziness of "Jazz", the dub techno/dancehall fusion of "Reggatron" and the intergalactic, acid-fired ambient techno-meets-deep house goodness of "Central".
