  1. 808 Trax (Shake Shakir remix) (3:04)
  2. 808 Trax (1:50)
  3. Armambo (BMG remix) (1:45)
  4. We Leave Tonight (Erika remix) (3:26)
Review: RMXD is Armando 'Alpha 606' Martinez' second release on Interdimensional Transmissions and is the rather tardy follow up to 2008's Electronica Afro-Cubano. Flanked by high-profile remixers, Martinez does well to impress with "808 Trax". A linear drum track takes a ride through an inner city at night, the screeches, groans and howls of its nocturnal population kept under the surface by steely claps. Label owner BMG's take on "Armambo" is similarly inclined, this time with spacey undercurrents fusing with tight 808s. Erika's version of "We Leave Tonight" is a more understated deep techno track, while at the other end of the spectrum, Anthony Shakir turns "808 Trax" into a full-on, drum-heavy techno track that is more complex than a spaghetti junction at rush hour.

Review: He calls it Electronica Afro-Cubano, we call it soulful electro. Taking the genre's classic sci-fi synthetic aesthetics and coding them with his own Cuban musical heritage, there's a real funk and spirit in Armando's machines. The carnivalian drum frenzy of "Afriba", the tipped humanized elements of "Shake", the hypnotic house headnods of "Black Mermaid" the roomy reverberations and lean make-up of "Whale Memory" and plenty more comprise a unique melting pot that references all points past and future.

  1. Credit Card
  2. Eskink
Review: Digging into the story behind this behemoth of a twelve inch makes you realise what a character Sal P must be. Ectomorph's Brendan Gillen has a detailed story of how the two came to work together which touches on how Liquid Liquid stole their food rider and Principato's thoughts against marriage. It's far too detailed to recount in full but worth investigating yourself as provides some definite context for the two certified jams on this twelve. "Credit Card" is stupendously good, effortlessly merging the taut punk funk swagger of Principato in his pomp with the snapping arrangement from Gillen. This is continued with "Esink", an eastern tinged percussive twister that operates at the lower reaches and sees Mr P in relatively restrained form. Big tip!

  4. 11:11 Live (7:48)
Review: Detroit legends Interdimensional Transmissions are back with the second installment of their Acid Series, following up one hell of an inauguration courtesy of Los Angeleno Jasen Loveland. It's now over to current scene favorite and known retrovert Jason Cudmore from NYC via Chicago, who proves his love of the acid life and all round jack-worthiness on this epic four tracker. That little silver box by Roland is in full effect throughout. The warbling and tunnelling trip that is "Flirt" has a hypnotic atmosphere that you could imagine Matrixxman playing in a dark sweaty basement. "Duck Hunt" channels classic Plastikman circa Sheet One on this tripped out and adrenalized 303 odyssey until "11:11 Live" hammers the message home, all guns blazing.

Review: Ectomorph occupy a unique and strange place within Detroit Techno history. Founded in 1994 as an inspired reaction to DBX, Basic Channel, Rob Hood, Sahko, and Drexciya, they released their first 12" singles in 1995 as an attempt to make Detroit music for Detroit itself, rather than exclusively for export. The mystique of their early singles led to mythic status and a strong underground cult following, which they have continued to develop through releases on their own Interdimensional Transmissions label. Their live shows are legendary for their ability to fluidly incorporate improvisational techniques into synthesized music (and for the sheer amount of hardware that they bring to the stage). The Ectomorph show is all analog, no computers or samplers or even drum machines: all sounds come from the modulars and the mountains of Moogs. Ectomorph (now officially comprised of BMG & Erika) reconvened in 2016 to write new music, which led to a series of live shows where the new material was tested via performance and allowed to evolve in form. To capture the energy of these performances, the new material was recorded in the studio totally live, multitracked for further engineering, but with no editing whatsoever. This music, to borrow a phrase from Derrick May, is what it is. The entire album was recorded live in one or two takes in the Interdimensional Laboratories in Detroit. This is the sound of the idea that is Ectomorph, presented in its natural and organic format, live and improvisational.

Review: Second time around for Ectomorph's brilliant "Subsonic Vibrations", which initially appeared as the first release on Interdimensional Transmissions back in 1995. It remains a killer EP full of dancefloor workouts (see the aggressive, rumbling bass and deep space rhythms of "Subsonic Vibrations" and "Parallax View"), locked-in DJ tools ("Loop 1", "Loop 2"), deeper excursions into mind-altering electro territory (the alien-sounding beat-box funk of "Skin") and fizzing, pitched-up, electro-funk (EP highlight "The Last Days of Skylab"). There's no filler or fluff, just high quality electro that still sounds like the future, 23 years after it was made.

  1. Tow Ride (Marcellus Pittman remix)
  2. North Hex (Orphx mix)
  3. A Cellular Meltdown (BMG club edit)
Review: Erika's debut album Hexigon Cloud is her first solo venture away from Ectomorph, a four piece Detroit electro collective that run the Interdimensional Transmissions label. In the lead up the LP's release, the label has commissioned a musically educating remix bundle, with remixes coming from Orphx, Ectomorph member Brendan M Gillen, aka BMG and Detroit chairman Marcellus Pittman. Orphx's remix to "North Hex" is a drawn out and emotionally tense ride through Delta Funktionen beats and statically charged Mike Parker-esque drones, while the minimal warps of BMG's remix to "A Cellular Meltdown" treads more of an electro path. Pittman's supplies some dour beats in comparison to his usual flamboyant productions, reworking "Tow Ride" by filling the gaps with atmospheric delays, sequenced blips and screeching Doctor Who synths - adding a groovy bassline for that quintessential Detroit touch.

Review: Jamal Moss is one of the most exciting artists working in electronic music, and this batch of Supressed Tapes is a reminder of his willingness to push the boundaries. The release starts with the dense maze of glitchy noise that is "2nd Soul Of The First Body". It sets the tone for the rest of the album. It's followed by the title track's warped, acidic rhythm, "Tribal Retribution", where it sounds like the Chicago producer has imprisoned a Middle Eastern vocalist in his dense and distorted rhythm, as well as Moss pushing his drum machine to the limits on "The Church Of The Red Museum" and "Ministry". He might call it the "Land of Rape & Honey", but really, he inhabits the outer limits.

Review: The return of the electro great. Perspects, famed for releases on the seminal Ersatz Audio label, home of the uber trendy 'Adult'. Not quite sure what happened to Adult actually...we think perhaps the just trend imploded. Anyway, following on from where Adult should have been taking their sound, pop up Perspects. Will appeal to the serious electro heads and the diagonal fringe brigade (if they are still trendy that is).

Review: From his early days in Le Car to last year's smash 'Flesh And Bone' with The Hacker, the music of Ian Clark has been making an impact for over a decade. Perspects on Interdimensional Transmissions is his strongest music to date. With his unified Peopleskills concept, Perspects shares new directions and ideas. This is demonstrated by his heavy vocal presence (sometimes in a Bryan Ferry/Brian Eno sort of way) and the incorporation of live drums into his sequenced sound, hinting at a whole new sound and approach. Available on 12 track double vinyl with lyric sheet (featuring one track exclusive to vinyl), and 13 track CD (featuring two tracks exclusive to CD).
