Review: Having impressed with a series of superb 12" singles, the Lobster Theremin label is finally ready to make the move to the full-length format. Interestingly, this first LP - a double album, no less - comes from a largely unheralded source, former Vancouver resident Chicago Jim (AKA Space Jim). Chicago Jim replicates the contents of his self-released 2012 cassette of the same name, bringing his blend of Larry Heard-inspired analogue deep house and stargazing ambience to vinyl for the first time. With nods to Heard's recently reissued Alien LP, early Transmat and Virgo Four style acid house, it's an analogue-only set - recorded mostly using vintage kit - that ebbs and flows with great emotional intent.

Two Nineteen (6:12)
Touched Feb (feat Adam Rowe) (6:52)
Review: Representing Chi-town's next-gen league of flag-bearers, David Garrett returns to the mighty Lobster Theremin with four more ageless house works. Deep, slightly hazy, strutting, dynamic and loaded with some great sample play, these tap deep into the source. Highlights include the sudden splashes of colour that come out of nowhere on "Sample Sesh" and the insistent, dubby ripples of "Touched Feb" with fellow Chicago vibe maestro Adam Rowe. Complete with the breezy jazzy jacks of "Two Nineteen" and the poignant chords and warm bass of "Ooh Aah", this is one dog you won't want to stop barking any time soon.

Death Whirl (5:53)
Compton (4:51)
Review: Daze's 2014 debut for Lobster Theremin's occasional white label series was something of a measured success, with the mysterious Australian producer gleefully joining the dots between a myriad of old and new house, techno and hardcore influences. Here he pops up on the label proper, with another EP that tries hard to defy categorization. The title track is deep, woozy and dreamy, with reverb-laden techno handclaps and kicks underpinning picturesque chords and lucid textures. The acid-peppered "Death Whirl" is darker and more basement friendly, while closer "Compton" impressively melds immersive deep house chords and swift vocal stabs with house-tempo rave breakbeats.

Review: The fledgling Lobster Theremin empire expanded further still this year with the launch of dedicated black and white labels that pointed in techno and house directions respectively. Getting label top boy Palms Trax to inaugurate the White series was a smart move (as was securing a Galcher remix) but Lobster Theremin look to a new name for the second WL release in Daze. Who is that you ask? All Lobster Theremin reveal is he hails from Australia and this Lips 12" makes for quite the impressive debut offering, trading in rugged and acid laced house tracks that doff their cap to "the heart of British rave culture via Detroit-influenced electro" The Omar S-styled 303 acid lines of "Untitled" and the lo-fi, summery breakbeats of the '94 Original DAT Dub of the title-track stand out.

Review: Room 101 might be where things are banished but "Room 202" is where it's at. A place where things are brought back from the past and celebrated for their true virtue; things like grainy, warm analogue production and robust grooves layered with devilishly simple details. With crunchy kicks and shimmering keys thrown in, you'll want to stay in "Room 202" long past last orders. "La Nuit" takes us deeper into the wee hours on a chugging new beat rocket that's steam-powered by a Moroderist bass arpeggio and more disco pops and bubbles than your suggest weekly intake allows. Spanish newcomer DIY 1990 builds us up again!

Review: Tony Donson unveiled his DJ Sonikku project earlier this year, delivering an impeccable EP of humid deep house for Lobster Theremin offshoot Distant Hawaii. All My Friends sees him transfer to the crustacean-themed parent label, in the process adding a little more analogue crunch to his previously dreamy productions. There's much to admire, from the Bobby 'O' inspired high-energy cheeriness of opener "Chemical Plant", to the proto-house melodiousness of "Sand Oasis". Best of all, though, is "Track 3", a wonky, back-to-basics bumper that takes a left-of-centre approach to classic New Jersey garage.

Review: Grant was first brought into the ever-expanding Lobster Theremin family late last year following the release of his rock solid Crank album on label offshoot Mork. Here he graduates to the main label via an EP of spacey analogue house positivity. Opener "Feeling (Vocal Mix)" is our pick, sounding not unlike a dreamier contemporary update of Ernest St Laurent's deep house classic "Clumsy Lobster". That said, there's plenty of treats tucked away elsewhere on the EP, including the thrusting, dub-flecked late night hypnotism of "Values" and the fluttering, analogue-rich sunrise house of closer "No Lights".

Review: There may now be no mystery surrounding the identity of deep house hero Grant - last year it was revealed that it was an alias of Frank & Tony member Anthony Collins - but the allure of his work remains as strong as ever. His first album for Lobster Theremin, "Fantasy Blues", is warm, melodious, musically detailed and far more imaginative than most deep house albums you'll hear this year. It sees Collins flit between oven-hot, jazz-funk influenced electronica ("Ephemeral Chase"), revivalist early '90s NYC deep house ("Mind & Space", "Finite Elements"), loose-and-languid ultra-deep goodness ("Amaranthine Profundity", "Blurred Harmony") and the kind of relaxed, intergalactic fare that sits somewhere between ambient techno and ocean-deep dream house. In other words, it's superb.

Dysania (5:01)
(Slow) (7:00)
Review: Lobster Theremin has been rather canny with the way it uses its white label series, often to deliver debuts from previously unheard talent. Hedge Maze certainly fits the bill, with Dysania marking the Leeds-based youngster's first release of note. Undeniably fuzzy, otherworldly, intoxicating and drenched in tape hiss, the EP's three tracks sound like the work of an experienced head rather than a relative newcomer. There's happily much to admire, from the sci-fi textures, lolloping beats and intergalactic chords of the opening untitled track, to the sludgy, dreamy, pitched-down Detroit chords, metallic sweeps and head-nodding pulse of "(Slow)". If this is anything to go by, Hedge Maze could be a name to watch in future.

Review: Previously on Distant Hawaii, UK producer Tom Harris aka Hidden Spheres appears now on Lobster Theremin with four servings of his soothing, late night house. "It Ain't Easy" is a deep, jazzy and loungey joint, reminiscent of early Atjazz, as is the sexy and evocative "IshOnSax" featuring 'some of the most contagious saxophone ever laid to wax' courtesy of Ishmael. The B-side features the Moodymann-ish "The Feels", a raw house number full of heart warming pads, dusty rhythms and soulful vocals. Closing out the release is the melting pot of swirling sounds, field recordings and playful drum programming on "It's Gonna Last".

Review: With only a handful of releases to his name, it's a little too early to say that Hungarian producer Imre Kiss could be one of the producers to check over coming years. Still, the signs are good. This first EP for the on-point Lobster Theremin label is packed full of highlights, from the crackling deep house-meets-dub techno shuffle of "Spellbound" and hustling, rush-inducing Detroit techno blast of "Raw Energy (APROS Session)", to the loopy, cymbal-heavy dream-house of ultra-deep flipside "Belief". Best of all, though, is "Non", which sounds like a slowed down remake of Laurent Garnier's classic techno anthem "Crispy Bacon".

Review: Despite sounding like a journeyman midfielder from the lower leagues of British football, Steve Murphy is in fact the alias of Venetian Mattia Effe, a key cog in the sprawling Italian hardware enthusiast scene alongside the Early Sounds and Restoration crew. First surfacing under the Steve Murphy & Co. guise with a Chiwax release in 2011, Effe has gone on to record an LP with compatriots Die Roh and launch the Muscle Records imprint alongside Analogue Copper Lucretio, Chevel, and DJ Octopus. Now he's the latest addition to the distinctively named Lobster Theremin, with his Relax EP likely to do anything but that to you! If you've gripped some Murphy previously you'll know to expect some rough and ready house music and look out for the "Tentacles Loop" locked grooves from DJ Octopus that line both sides!

Total Recall 2084 (5:00)
Review: Our main Venetian steps back up for duty on Lobby Theremin and delivers the goods, as per usual, jump-started by his inimitable hardware flare and funky touch to the dread techno beats. After appearances on Rawax, Chiwax, Hot Haus, Wilson and others, the Italian's return to Lobster Theremin with four dutty pieces of club debauchery is most welcome. The first is the "UK Treatment' and it's an absolutely nasty, totally swinging house duster with an old-school feel, while "Spleen" is more low-key and heads down. On the B-side, "Rules" flutters away amid grungy, tape-saturated low-ends, and the utterly gnarly "Total Recall 2084" sounds like sliding pieces of metal banging away at each other to reach sparks. BANGIN'.

La Busqueda (Fatwhitehandsmix)
Review: There's no doubt that Lobster Theremin was one of the runaway success stories of 2014, with each of their releases - which veered between dusty, otherworldly deep house and raw techno via creepy ambience - being nigh on essential. This first 12" of 2015 comes from London newcomer Ozel AB, who the label aptly describes as a "hazologist" and "day-dreamer". There's certainly something sleepy - despite the hypnotic, club-friendly rhythms and gently throbbing sub - about opener "Sidestep To Your Left", while follow-up "Digital Natives" seemingly shimmers thanks to yearning chords, shuffling rhythms and raw electronics. Things get a little creepier on the flip, where "Karim Bey" and "La Busqueda" tiptoe the fine line between dystopian deep house and distorted techno.

Late Jam (Willie Burns Dance remix) (5:13)
Review: ** REPRESS ** The curiously named Lobster Theremin label comes from some of the minds behind London's excellent Streets Of Beige club night, and arrives with a mission statement to provide a platform "for new and emerging international artists of a tougher aural leaning". The label's first release provides the debut of Palms Trax, a Berlin-based producer and sometime Streets Of Beige DJ. Entitled Equation, the record provides a bold debut for label and producer; sharing the same misty eyed, '80s-influenced approach to house music as Max D and the Future Times crew, the three original tracks here are amongst some of the finest house music released this year, with the angular strings and thick arpeggio of the title track an undisputed standout. WT Records boss Willie Burns provides the release's only remix, in which he turns in a VHS-saturated take on "Late Jam" which is another essential for Burnett completists. Essential!

Review: ** Lobster Theremin Repress ** Palms Trax's Equation 12" has become something of an in-demand item since it first appeared last September, with original copies now changing hands for upwards of L35 online. This second edition, pressed up into marbled vinyl with new artwork, features two of the most in-demand tracks from the original EP; the deep Chicago acid flex of "Late Jam" - an almost perfect fusion of early Larry Heard liquid house and Phuture style acid jack - and "Equation", an 808 handclap-heavy foray into Motor City futurism with a fluid Chi-town twist. The EP is completed by the previously unheard Tim Man remix of "Houses in Motion", a pleasingly dreamy saunter into analogue deep house territory.

Forever (Galcher Lustwerk remix)
Review: Young producer Palms Trax finds himself in an interesting position. Despite previously only releasing one EP - 2013's brilliant Equation, which was given the reissue treatment earlier this year - he's already being talked about in hushed tones in deep house circles. Happily, this second EP is almost as stunning as his first. The title track is particularly delicious, with jaunty, wide-eyed electronic melodies tumbling over skittering drum machine beats. The stripped-back "Raw Jam" - all vintage bleeps, thumping beats and rising and falling analogue bass - is arguably even better. The EP's real highlight, though, is a even match between Galcher Lustwerk's typcially sultry remix of "Forever" and "Lost Control", a rush-inducing chunk of thrillingly melodic 808 electro that sounds like a gleefully Balearic take on Drexciya.

Review: Having recently paddled in murkier, darker waters via clandestine EPs of dark ambience, raw analogue house and distorted techno, Lobster Theremin switch tack on this EP of melodious deep house warmth from Panthera Krause. Opener "Rules" sets the tone, layering undulating electronics, warm chords and tactile keys over a sparse, cowbell-laden house rhythm."Rewo", whose production seems to be inspired by the MPC work of West Coast hip-hop producers, is a sunnier but no less deep excursion into immersive deep house pastures. Finally, "Them Flutes" - which seems devoid of any flutes, bizarrely - is a rolling, proto-house inspired foray into disco-flecked house territory.

Review: Having been impressed by his fine EPs on In Paris and Renascence, Lobster Theremin has invited Pepe to join the family. Lemon Fanta, his debut for the lauded London imprint, could well be his musically adventurous and hard-to-pigeonhole 12" to date. Check, for example, A-side "Rainfall (Part I & II)", a wonderfully luscious and loved-up deep house epic full of rush-inducing piano notes, swirling electronics, xylophone style melodies and loose, off-kilter hand percussion. The deliciously sweet and sugary title track sounds like a tooled-up contemporary take on dream house classic "Sueno Latino", while "Benzine Electronics" is a dewy-eyed drift through deep house/electro fusion with more than a few nods towards hazy Balearica.

Review: Privacy makes his debut on the perma busy Lobster Theremin, and it's nothing short of a love letter to the 80s; robust analogue grooves, linear, minimal and synthetic to the very core. Each of the four tracks on Hypertext doffs its proverbial cap to a different corner of music's historical foundations and does it very well for a newcomer. "New Wake Trace" zips us to Belgium for some proto acid new beat, "Always On" is a gritty, fuzzy bouncing head nod to the darkest deltas Detroit while both "Chemical History" and "Endless Shallows" riff on the classic electro signatures, all crisp, icy and angular.

Review: Prior to joining up with Lobster Theremin for this volume of their white label series, Qnete's output had largely consisted of powerful but spacey tracks in an intelligent techno-meets-classic Detroit vibe. While hints of that style are still present on his first Lobster Theremin outing, there's a much more "classic deep house" feel throughout. Opener "A Luv Jam" comes across as the sort of expansive, star-gazing, Larry Heard inspired jam that moves the head just as much as the feet, while "I Might Be Wrong" doffs a cap in the direction of the Motor City whilst retaining an early '90s feel. As for flipside "Dresden", it offers a magical fusion of fizzing, Chicago-inspired drum machine rhythms and spacey, almost endless deep space chords.

Review: Lobster Theremin may only be five releases deep, but so far the label hasn't put a foot wrong. This fifth release from newcomer Rawaat is every bit as essential as the previous four, and delivers a uniquely hazy, hallucinatory take on analogue-rich deep house. After opening with the enveloping, otherworldly ambience of "Caverns of Reflection", Rawaat goes deep and druggy on the chugging bump of "EXP 2" and the discordant "Motion Sensor" (check the densely layered, metallic percussion). "Day Laborer" has a much more straightforward - if still delightfully - off-kilter feel, with intoxicating vocal samples and claustrophobic chords riding a distorted, Chicago house rhythm. HS remixes the latter track, turning it into a humid slice of tropical pagan goodness.

Review: The seemingly unstoppable rise of Ross From Friends continues via a four-track assault on Lobster Theremin. While the producer's outings on sister label Distant Hawaii have been humid, tropical and melodious, the quartet of cuts here are a little bolder and more bustling in feel. Check, for example, the tough drum machine hits, swirling chords and chopped up vocal samples of "In An Emergency", the jacking drums and early morning wooziness of "Xoxoxo", and the suitably blazed, off-kilter deep house distortion of "Crystal Catcher (Weed)". Arguably best of all, though, is "Donny Blew It", an elastic fusion of sugary-sweet vocal samples, sparkling '80s soul synths and skewed deep house beats that's as loved-up and intoxicating as they come.

Route 8's Dry Thoughts, for instance, has been getting plenty of repress requests from you lot, and here it is, packed in a lovely 2nd edition look for the collectors. In case you didn't know about its existence, these are three rough-edged house-techno hybrids for the long sets: "Pacific Paradise" is a driving head-nodder with plenty of atmospheric processing, "I can't" is a swinging house duster, while "Relaxed" bops to and fro with mild chords and a gritty layer of analogue fuzz. Review: Hungarian producer Route 8 first joined Lobster Theremin in 2014 following a series of acclaimed singles for labels such as Nous, Bokhari and Farbwechsel. A couple more releases for imprint and distribution outfit followed, before he surprisingly fell off the radar. Come Home is his first EP for almost two years; predictably, it's really rather good. We're really rather enjoying the rush-inducing warmth and positivity of opener "Come Home", where chanted, delay-laden vocal samples and sultry Latin trumpet solos drift across a sumptuous deep house groove, and the electrofunk-sampling thrust of deep gospel house bumper "FunFun". That said, both "Turning Point" (a deep and spacey breakbeat house number) and the rolling, riff-heavy late night shuffler "From The Valley" are also superb.

As you'd expect from the title , the four tracks here will quench anyone with a thirst for some raw house music and undercooked pseudo techno. Sounds range from the dreamy patters of "Sunrise In Her Eyes", to the distinctly distorted poundings of "This Raw Feeling", the broken patters featuring on "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" and even the glitchy, off-kilter percussive charm of "Ash Dub". Review: There's been a lot of discussion recently about "new age house", a decidedly tropical take on analogue deep house with distinct influences from classic ambient house and 1980s new age compositions. Here, Lobster Theremin follows in the footsteps of Mood Hut, Confused House and Future Times (amongst others) with a formidably atmospheric EP from Route 8 (AKA producer Gergely Szilveszter Horvath). Opener "Pacific Paradise" is particularly good, offering an enveloping plunge into ocean-deep waters (think dreamy chords and snappy drum machine rhythms). That said, the darker, fuzzier "I Can't" and "Dry Thoughts" - all bumpin' beats and subtle melodies - are just as good and demonstrate the Budapest-based producer's range.

Review: There's something particularly admirable about Lobster Theremin's often-stated desire to eschew tried-and-tested producers in favour of newcomers and lesser-known studio buffs. Here, they offer a label debut to William 'Royer' Thurman, whose 2014 releases on Tasteful Nudes and Material Image were all quietly impressive. Here, he escorts us on a trip into the deep depths of his musical imagination, where drifting chords, barely audible vocal samples and dusty melodic motifs rub shoulders with crackling drum machine grooves and blazed, locked-in rhythms. There's much to enjoy throughout, from the horizontal textures and rolling grooves of "Facts", to the minor key techno wonkiness of "Collectively". TRP remixes that track, delivering a heavier, more raw sounding interpretation.

Review: The increasingly impressive Lobster Theremin label seems to be developing close ties to Hungary's emerging electronic music scene. Having previously released a superb EP from Budapest-based Imre Kiss, they've now turned to one of the country's more established names, S. Olbricht (an alias of producer Martin Mikolai). There's much to admire on this intoxicating four-tracker, from the alien electonics and hustling drums of leftfield techno opener "Fi", to the crackling, off-kilter rhythms and ghostly chords of "RPSTS". Elsewhere, Mikolai demonstrates his deep house nous on the warming "IIX1", and fuses twinkling melodies, creepy chords and a throbbing low-end groove on the similarly impressive "Veuns".

Sho 5537 (Jared Wilson remix)
Review: Another unheralded production talent features on the second release from the breakout Lobster Theremin label. Snow Bone is the production alias of Londoner Rob Hare who has allegedly been secretly honing his craft since the mid '90s. Notably darker in tone than the debut Lobster Theremin transmission, the Remote Viewer EP contains three original Snow Bone productions that the label liken to an abrasive blend of Hieroglyphic Being, Moodymann, Coil and Basic Channel. Excitingly, Detroit's master of the 303 Jared Wilson has been selected for rework duties on the Remote Viewer EP, turning in a remix of the hellish "SHO 5537? that Lobster Theremin amusingly states is "pretty much zero resemblance to the original".

Review: Concrete club resident Sweely is fast becoming one of France's most talked-about DJ/producers. The hype is partly based on his club-rocking skills, but also on the quality of his on-point productions. This latest excursion on Lobster Theremin is shamelessly floor-friendly in tone, with the young Frenchman effortlessly joining the dots between acid house, bass-heavy UK house and garage, and more soulful U.S deep house flavours. Check, in particular, the throbbing, lo-fi bounce of "You Don't Really Want Me", where ragged acid lines and soulful vocal samples wrap around a bustling groove, and the bombastic, breakbeat-driven peak-time assault that is "Stronger Than Me". Elsewhere, he finds time to flit between TB-303 abuse and Rhodes playing on "Acid City" and indulges his love of blazed, hip-hop style beatmaking via closer "You Do".

Review: Sweely has been making moves for a while in underground fires. He's dropped his stylish electronic sounds on labels like Bunter Side Up to great acclaim and now gets the nod from another revered UK outlet in Lobster Theramin. This red and gold 12" finds the producer offering up some tracks from his archives, starting with the balmy and bumpy depths of 'Stronger Than Me'. As always the synths are lithe and neon in colour, liquid in design and restless in the way they bounce about the mix over the kinetic, infectious drums. It's a similar story with the rest of these club-ready but charming cuts.

Review: Tissu's debut for Mork last year was a refreshing bit of outsider techno, and that EP has had us waiting on some more material from the producer. London's Lobster Theremin seems like a perfect home to this calibre of artist and his wayward sound fits into the label's catalogue like hand in glove. "Space Loop" perfectly encapsulates the loose roll of analogue beats and hazy melodies within its groove, but "RV Jam" is even more spectacular thanks to its punchy cascade of synths and collapsing drum machine hits. On the flip, "Filter (dub)" is still loose and chimerical, but Tissu manages to weave a tight, mechanical groove that seems to hold everything else in place - a wild and untamed plane from a distant planet.
