I Lost My Soul (In Yours)
A Question About You
A Question About You (Amir Alexander Saturn Matrix re-fix!)
Review: One of the most respected producers in the underground, Anaxander, contributes two beautiful pieces of original music, and has one of them reworked by Deep House heavy hitter, the mighty Amir Alexander. Lost My Soul (in Yours) is twisted little number, with dual synth riffs echoing off each other for maximum effect. A Question About You uses jazzy chords and flutes over its undeniable bassline to retain some soulful flavoring, but Amir strips all of that away on his interpretation, preffering instead to let the acid and the warehouse vibes have their way, taking things right into a 6am rave nightmare. This is absolute must-have piece of wax!

Stepping Out (6:29)
Search For Intelligence (6:29)
Indigo (5:42)
Review: Long serving Irish producer Derek Carr continues to enjoy a resurgent career following his appearances on For Those That Knoe, now stepping up to Love Notes for some of his most effervescent house jams to date. "Sidewinder" is a sprightly, Detroit indebted house workout pitched at peak time, while "Stepping Out" trips into classically informed techno for the back room crowd. "Search For Intelligence" is a great example of how to execute sweet natured electro, and "Indigo" ditches the kicks to twirl into more of that Motor City flavoured machine soul magic for the mind.

Behind 6000 (6:54)
Genghis Kahn (5:54)
Review: We were very excited indeed to see the third release from the quite promising Love Notes from Brooklyn imprint! Marco Zenin was a featured artist on the last release under his DJ Octopus guise, and this time he's featured again with his other project, the more techy/ more minimal Die Roh, who recently had an underground athem with their release on Black Venison. The duo here seemingly lean their sounds in the direction of the label's and offer two-cut EP which is their deepest effort yet to date. Surely more DJs will play the dancier A side, Behind 6000, but for us, the groovier B side and title track Genghis Kahn is the choice cut. Label owner, Nathaniel Jay, continues in the precendent he's set with each release having its own unique "Love Note", authored by him, making every one of these records collectable.

Eyes Low (7:08)
Touch Formation (6:48)
I Feel (6:09)
Review: Recently found laying down exquisite jams for HNYTRX, Skylax and others, Octo Octa is continuing her productive run of 2017 with this refined slice of business for Love Notes. "Eyes Low" is a stirring melting pot of styles, using a bumping house groove as a basis for adventurous string stabs, rolling percussion and lots more that comes on with a Herbert-esque touch of finesse. "Touch Formation" takes a more intimate approach, using warm acidic bass and lingering chords to set up a vintage slice of Heard inspired house music. "I Feel" maintains the introspective flavour of the B-side with more poignant keys and an understated beat, making this a well-rounded EP for the summer months.

Fears Of Simplicty
Exhilaration Of The New
Half Heard Whispers
In Our Dreams
Review: The latest Love Notes welcomes Perseus Traxx to the fold with just the kind of romantic, classically informed hardware jam action that the label so dearly loves. "Fears Of Simplicity" kicks off on a celestial tip that reaches skyward with its plush layers of electronic melodics, while "Exhilaration Of The New" sports a distinctly Mr. Fingers-flavoured vibe that's impossible to dislike. "Half Heard Whispers" is a lighter jam that floats along on an airy bed of pads, and then "In Our Dreams" takes the prize as the prime cut on the record, digging deep to depict a more mysterious version of the old-skool house music we know and love.

Limited Trance (4:14)
Review: Love Notes turns its affections towards the Windy City with this exemplary 12" from Chicago producer Shmoo, who is no slouch in the energy department when rolling out the pumped up deep house delights of "Sidehacker". "Intellect's Intuitive Waste" is no slouch either, taking a brighter sunshine approach compared to "Sidehacker"s nocturnal veneer, and "Limited Trance" keeps the jack up while letting the additional tones and textures take things deeper. Garrett David gets busy with "Intellect's Intuitive Waste", creating a crafty remix steeped in intriguing percussion without losing that housey focus that defines the Love Notes approach.

Perugia 1989 (5:17)
Bella Ciao (5:14)
My Brother, Dani (5:43)
Review: Nick Anthony Simoncino is the perfect choice to add to the ever-expanding Love Notes narrative. His classically rooted, passionate approach to hardware house music chimes with previous 'Noters like Octo Octa and Casey Tucker, and the quality is as high on this 12" as one of his many appearances on Creme Organization or Vibraphone, to name but a few. "Perugia 1989" is quintessential Simoncino - simple in its construction but beautifully engineered with all emphasis on an undulating bassline. "Bella Ciao" is a more tense cut that uses some nervy synth phrases to eke out a trance-indebted mood, and then "My Brother, Dani" maintains the theme with a dramatic use of space and jittery percussion.

Know How It Feels (5:25)
Review: Following choice wares from tape_hiss and Pascal Viscardi, Love Notes stride into winter with a fulsome offering from lesser-known artist Subtenant, who packs just the right balance of classic acid and modernist techno into the three original tracks on this 12". "Evergreen Soul" looks set to turn heads in the club with its playful organ flex hopping around the punchy 303 notes, while "Artisanal Acid" brings some homespun hardware handiwork to the table. "Know How It Feels" drops in at a slower tempo, but it's D'Marc Cantu who steals the show with a dynamic remix of the title track loaded with detail and shot through with dub.

The Panic In Needle Park (Willie Burns remix)
Love is A Dog From Hell
Traces To Nowhere
Review: Love Notes from Brooklyn is proud to present a brand new and promising young American artist in the form of tape_hiss. These three moody and emotive tracks fit in perfectly with the label sound Love Notes has been developing over their last few release. The Panic in Needle Park, the clear standout track, begins the EP with gloomy synth washes at a chugging, pitched down speed. That track is then ably reworked by fellow Brooklynite, Willie Burns, of LIES and WT Records, who breaks the beat up for a stunted and unique reinterpretation. On the flip, Love is a Dog From Hell brings a little acid to the proceedings, and Traces to Nowhere closes it out on consitantly dark and moody note. Literates will note the Bukowski references throughout. Another winner for this label.

Life As An Echo
The Forests Of My Mind
Review: tape_hiss is a regular on Love Notes, having only recently dropped the excellent Cognitive Dissonance double pack. The Brooklyn based producer is back on the label with another four tracks of finest deep house for the club, kicking off with the emotive but peppy strains of "Jacob's Ladder" before drifting off into the calmer waters of "Maspeth Ave". "Life As An Echo" has an equally wistful ring to it, but don't be misled, this is still sturdy tackle for the dancefloor. "The Forests Of My Mind" finishes the EP off with a hazy trip through languorous pads and dusty drums for those tender moments of the night.

Review: Love Notes reach their tenth release with a double pack from label regular tape_hiss. Following on from two crucial 12"s that landed on the label last year, the Brooklyn artist steps up with eight cuts of purest heat that remind you just how much mileage there still is in no-nonsense hardware jams. There's a consistent mood of immersive, undulating house coursing throughout, with warm, punchy acid basslines offset by intricate percussion and dreamy pads that sit easy on the ears. "Folding Space" is a standout track with its delicate beats and refined lead lines, while "No Neck & Bad As Hell" brings a little electro bite into the mix, with stunning results.

The Vivian Girls (Patrice Scott remix) (6:49)
Realms Of The Unreal (5:51)
Review: Brooklyn's Love Notes label continues to strengthen its repertoire with a return offering from the rising San Francisco producer tape_hiss. Following on from the excellent Love Is A Dog From Hell 12" earlier in the year this new four track single presents yet more plush, heartfelt jams from the machine-based side of house music. If a reference point were needed, having Patrice Scott on board for a remix is a logical move, although the Detroit don's Latin-flavoured shakedown of "The Vivian Girls" is a spicy proposition compared to the soothing balm of the original. That's not to say tape_hiss doesn't like to throw it down, as the twitchy pulse of "Realms Of The Unreal" adeptly proves.

Down So Long
Review: Love Notes strides into 2019 with a return visit by tape_hiss, last spotted on the label with the on-point Jacob's Ladder 12" in 2017. This time around the Brooklyn-based artist is unfurling twinkling, star-gazing, techno-tinted house to spellbind all manner of dancefloors. "Ephemeral Beauty" is positively sumptuous with its many layers of melodic interplay, giving remixer Joey Anderson more than enough material to work with. Anderson's version plays to his strengths as a weaver of understated, mechanical but soulful techno, setting the scene perfectly for B side tracks "Mono No Aware" and "Down So Long" to explore further avenues of deep, emotive machine music.

That Time Of Year
New Mission
Review: Casey Tucker is on a roll at the moment, and his infectious brand of uplifting, full-fat machine soul seems to have struck a chord in many places (not least via his reissues on For Those That Knoe). After appearing on Love Notes back in 2015, Tucker's back on the label with another salvo of colourful, charming and utterly magnificent house jams shot through with the inventive programming of techno. "Alternative Faction" is many things - a bubbly acid track, a swooning deep house cut and a sassy broken beat affair - and yet feels utterly smooth in its execution. "That Time Of Year" has plenty of Motor City soul feeding into its composition, not least in the gorgeous synth strings, and "New Mission" gets busy in the swing with all kinds of bouncing melodies and rhythms.

Review: New label from Brooklyn's Nathaniel Jay, also known for his Love Revolution label, and his work as half of Soho808. Original music by Casey Tucker, whose recent releases on Boe off-shoot, For Those Who Knoe, Inspired Jay to seek him out. On remix duties, Italy's underground don, Nick Anothony Simoncino, of L.I.E.S., Echovolt, Skywax, Quintessentials, and his own label, Hotmix, to name but a few. Nathaniel is promising big things for his new Love Notes imprint: "This is going to be the best thing I've ever done". We'll take him at his word until he gives us reason not to.

Where Pathways Meet

Free at Dawn (The Ecstasy of Roland Mixx)
And I Showed the Clouds (How to Cover Up a Clear Blue Sky)
Review: The first place the world heard the lead track from this new Love Notes from Brooklyn release, "Where Pathways Meet", was on Deep House legend Mike Huckaby's My Life with the Wave show volume 2. Pascal Viscardi was one of many great artists to take Huckaby's warm tones and turn them into a work of art. "Pathways..." wriggles with deep funk and soul, and is paired with 3 other likeminded tracks for this very well-rounded EP. "Oshakusan" is the dancefloor track, juxtaposing warm chords and an insistent sax sample over the a tough bassline and rhythm combination that's aimed staight at the floor. "Free at Dawn" is the fathoms deep effort, going miles below the surface in a emotional expression of soul, and "And I Showed the Clouds (How to Cover Up a Clear Blue Sky)" provides a perfect outtro, and end to the statement made, making this EP feel truly complete.
