Coronal Loop
Review: Malin Genie's distinctive take on house and techno has already earned him spots on some of the contemporary scene's most vital labels, from Hypercolour to Will & Ink, and now his self-titled label throws the doors open to welcome in a likeminded individual with a similar instinct for unconventional approaches to 4/4 dynamics. Yaleesa Hall has already built up a strong identity on Will & Ink, and in partnership with Genie the results are nothing short of spellbinding. From the shimmering dubby tones of "Coronal Loop" to the submerged ruminations of "Oganesson," this is advanced dance music engineered to twist your synapses and shake your limbs in the most unpredictable of ways.

Minimal House/Tech House
Alpha Decay

Stocha
Review: The sixth installment on Malin Genie's self-titled label welcomes Will & Ink resident Yaleesa Hall into the fold. Regular collaborators Malin and Yaleesa have turned out plenty of joint 12"s in the past on Will & Ink and this very label, and they sound more comfortable and sonically aligned than ever on this mighty record. There's no messing with "Alpha Decay," a loose and lysergic dubby techno workout. "Tachyon" orbits a similar soundworld, but shears the fat away for a minimal palette that sounds powerful echoing around the ample space in the mix. "Muck" slips into freaky after hours house territory, and "Stocha" drops a massive Basic Channel dub techno chord around a whisper of a beat to devastating effect.

Spoit (6:12)
Mount Castle (6:09)
Tiger (7:21)
Touch (5:42)
Review: Following an impressive debut on the excellent Pluie/Noir last year, Yuzo Iwata returns with a new 12" of leftfield goodies on Malin Genie's self-titled label. Preferring to span a variety of styles, Iwata glides gracefully from the dubbed out oddball techno of "Spoit" to the dubstep-inflected delicacy of "Mount Castle", all the while firing off tasteful splashes of FX and noise to create a vivid sonic imprint. "Tiger" is a switch in mood again, whipping up a distorted mutant acid-disco hybrid that defies easy categorization. "Touch" brings things back to a more linear groove, but there's still plenty of space for psychoactive experimentation atop the forthright beat.

Review: Malin Genie welcomes an extensive EP treat from Lava Lap, an emergent producer with an affinity for the kind of braindance that will have fans of Jodey Kendrick beating their drum machines with approval. The acid is slippery, the structures ever-shifting and a wealth of expression spills out of every bar. There are faster drum & bass paced bits, melancholy detuned electro and much more besides. Far from just being clever music though, it's also amazingly emotional and so impeccably produced. Any electronica head should be all over this.

Kring I (locked groove) (1:00)
Review: Malin Genie's purple patch continues to yield more delights with this latest drop on his self-titled label. This time around the prolific Dutch artist is delving into smoky, hidden corners of house music where dub lingers thick in the air and rough textures scuff depth and character into the synth work. "Aventijn" has a purposeful drum machine tick but its utterly somnambulant in its execution, while "KIAR" lilts on a dusty groove and woozy clouds of funk. "Duppy" has a distinct dub techno influence, but it's still a steadfast house groover at heart, and "Amulius Numitor" ditches the beats for a pure interstellar exploration. With some bonus locked grooves for creative DJs, this is a versatile and imaginatively rendered EP with creative spark to match its usefulness in the mix.

Troglodyte Party (8:08)
Drek (4:31)
Mastodon (6:51)
The Foolish & The Senseless Alike (5:34)
Bodie (1:59)
Review: A new record from Malin Genie is always an intriguing proposition, and on this occasion the prolific, chameleonic producer is working in the realm of sharply focused techno with a dubby sensibility at its heart. That's especially true on 'Drek', which does a great job of bringing a fresh texture to the well worn dub techno palette thanks to some canny FX processing. 'Mastodon' is bigger still thanks to its own assortment of pulsing chord tones, and 'The Foolish & The Senseless' brings things into a new realm of expression with some forthright melodies that aren't typically associated with the dub techno tradition. Top shelf stuff as always from this inventive and accomplished producer.

Altrica Bloom EP
Altrica Bloom EP (180 gram vinyl 12")

Minimal House/Tech House
Snake Scale (8:38)
Bloom (6:51)
Altrica (8:21)
Review: Malin Genie's warm, funk fuelled sound returns to blow some balmy vibes into your frostbitten souls, and he's sounding especially expressive on this effervescent new 12". "Snake Scale" features all kinds of liquid funk notes pouring around the crisp house beat, channeling soulful tones without resorting to basic sampling. "Bloom" is a more linear cut with a steady tech house pulse, but it's shot through with mysterious ambience that deepens the emotional impact of the track. "Altrica" completes the EP with a smoked out trip into reduced, back room house subtleties for the blissed out crew to get psychedelic to.

Hypothetical Island Of Stability
Fudeoroshi
Bulbocavernosa
Mer Neith It Es
Review: Not content with already steering the Vigenere and Oscillat labels and appearing regularly on Will & Ink and Lazare Hoche, Malin Genie has launched his own self-titled label as a vessel for his most intriguing twists on the house and techno template. The record strides in with the tracky tones of "Hypothetical Island Of Stability," a feast of micro pops and squiggles strapped to a rock solid beat. "Fudeoroshi" is more overtly minimalist in nature, using the barest of ingredients to make a potent dancefloor cut. "Bulbocavernosa" opens up the filters and lets a little nasty acid fun and games into the mix, and then "Mer Neith It Es" rounds the record off with a soaring slice of melodic, deep techno that stands confidently apart from the rest of the tracks.

Review: Having built up his self titled label alongside his sterling work as part of Oscillat, Lazare Hoche and Will & Ink, the one and only Malin Genie delivers his debut solo album. Moving beyond the pure club focus of his singles and EPs, the Genie has seized this opportunity to present a widescreen panorama of his sound, leading in with the subliminal ambience of "You" as a springboard to explore breaks, electro, techno, and especially IDM. There are so many ideas swirling round Anthropomorphic Sympathy, it's hard to know where to begin describing it. A true headphone commute for the deep listener to burrow into.

Lijnbaan Dubb (8:40)
Fosie (8:02)
Scania (7:40)
Scania (SAM Reshape) (7:30)
Review: Malin Genie's self-titled label carries another wedge of sublime deep house directly aiming at the after party crowd, this time in collaboration with the prolific Swedish producer Per Hammar, "Lijnbaan Dubb" kicks things off in an immersive swirl of heavy-lidded house for the mellow steppers to lock into. "Fosie" is a twitchier concern that reduces the groove down to a crystalline minimal framework peppered with quirky sound design. "Scania" has a more techy disposition, getting locked into some seriously heady loops and splashed with generous helpings of dub processing. SAM then reshapes the track into a moody strutter that brings things full circle with the A1 gem that opens this seriously classy EP.
