Review: "Death Row" was Blame and Justice's first ever 12" release way back in and now it gets reissued for the first time. It's a hard hitting melange of big drum breaks, spoken word snippets and barrelling drums that is fun and high impact jungle of the highest order. "Murderin' M.C." is a darker tune with a rumbling bassline and shooting lasers synths that bring a more electronic and futurist feel, but still designed for club destruction. Big ups Modern Urban Jazz for the work on this one.

Clearly influenced as much by drum & bass's jungle past and the smooth grooves of late 90s era Good Looking releases as liquid D&B and contemporary breakbeat jazz, Moments In Life smartly fuses crisp beats, rolling rhythms, dub influences and smooth, spacious chords. From start to finish, the results are never less than ear-pleasing, carefully balancing a dancefloor sensibility with the needs of a home-listening long player. As debuts go, it's pretty impressive.

Review: The Head Hunter is back! An early jungle protagonist and consistent boundary pusher, Tony Justice returns to his less-is-more Modern Urban Jazz imprint with a brand new crop of timelessness. "Fried" sets the scene, all amen guns blazing, a gritty bass oozing like treacle beneath and cosmic arpeggios. Straight out of the book of 95, it grabs you hook, line and stinker for the rest of the EP: From the mournful synth lines and classic breaks of "Late Night Sweep", those early rave pads of "Edge Of Space" to the jungle techno style 4/4 bumps and jazzy keys of "Melt", this is top shelf material. Let's hope more is in the pipeline very soon.

Review: Dons like Justice & Metro return to last year's single "The Navigator / Moscow Calling" with two absolutely insane remixes. Sicknote turns the sinewy two-step alien funk-up into a Renegade-style bash jam. All thunder drums and twisted swampy bass gurgles. Tim Reaper does a similar soup-up on "Moscow Calling" as he gives it a savage drum overhaul. Flip for a skippy, time-defying new original from Justice and Metro - "The Hump" and an equally scatty, and slightly raved-up shakedown from Dutch doyen Coco Bryce. Outstanding.

Review: Total vibes from one half of Total Science; "Guitar Thing" is one of many long sought after Q Project dubs from the man they call Quiff and it still sounds every bit as beguiling and of its own universe as it did back in the mid 90s. So do the Bs: "Wild Pitched" is a timeless stepper stripped back to its essence with crafty switched up drums and eerie pipes while "Instrumental" takes us deep into the desert then whips a sandstorm around us with chop slapping rim shots, harmonised chirps and pads that push you deeper and deeper back in time. The truth never ages.

Review: Back to 93! MJazz repress last year's precision-timed reissue of the Legend Records classic from Total Science's Smithy and the lesser spotted Windmill. With its chopped breaks and mischievous riffs "In Effect" captures the change of tide in the music at the time, as the beats were getting darker and rougher and faster. Flip for some real hair-raising hurt as Windmill goes full string section and gets heavy on the reverse effects. 26 years deep and its still sounding like the bleak future ahead. Don't sleep on this.
