Come On (5:06)
Come On (DJ Ralf remix) (5:23)
Cloud (4:46)
Cloud Detox (GNMR reworked) (7:45)
Review: Alkemy's Come On EP, released on Mondo Groove from Italy, delivers a captivating blend of deep house with influences of Balearic and Italo house. Side-1 features the original version boasting a mid-tempo groove with a nostalgic 90s vibe and rich melodies. In contrast, the DJ Ralf remix injects a more upbeat and techno-infused energy, offering a futuristic twist to the original track. On Side-2, 'Cloud' presents a melodic and deeper journey into the realms of deep house, maintaining a danceable rhythm while delving into more introspective sonic territories. Meanwhile the GNMR Reworked version takes a leap into the future with its proto-techno sound and deep synth vibes, offering a refreshing and unique perspective .Alkemy's Come On EP demonstrates the artist's versatility and innovation within the deep house genre, providing listeners with four examples of quality dance music.

Exalt-Exalt (7:46)
Review: Many of you may be familiar with "San Sebastian", the 1979 Mediterranean disco slammer that was by far and away the biggest dancefloor hit for Celso Valli's Azoto project. Less well known is the album that it was taken from, Disco Fizz, which here gets a fresh vinyl reissue courtesy of the diggers at Mondo Groove. In some ways, it's typical of Italian disco of the period, taking cues from both electronic European disco (think Giorgio Moroder, Gino Soccio etc.), the hybrid synth-disco/orchestral disco of Rinder and Lewis (see bonkers but brilliant closer "Exalt-Exalt") and driving U.S disco anthems (the previously mentioned "Sal Salvador"). Intrestingly, opener "Fire Fly" sounds like a blueprint for later synth-pop influenced Italo-disco records.

Azymuth - "Jazz Carnival" (Daniele Baldelli & Marco Dionigi remix) (5:58)
Daniele Baldelli - "Jazz Carnival" (5:02)
Azymuth - "Young Embrace" (Daniele Baldelli & Marco Dionigi remix) (4:15)
Daniele Baldelli - "Young Embrace" (3:22)
Review: The legendary Discoteca Cosmic resident Daniele Baldelli played these two tracks by MPB-jazz group Azymuth in his DJ sets extensively back in 1979. Today he remixes and models them as he deems most suited to a Cosmic DJ set. Their famous hit 'Jazz Carnival' is reworked as a hypnotic and bass-driven stomper in conjunction with Marco Dionigi (Quantistic Division), while Baldelli flies solo for a low slung cover version up next. Over on the flip, Baldelli taps Dionigi one more time for a session of meditative slo-mo tribal groove on their rework of 'Young Embrace' also taken from the acclaimed Light As A Feather LP.

Joka Joka (6:00)
Vhanessa (4:48)
Archetipo (6:29)
Review: Daniele Badlelli's Cosmic Temple series reaches its fourth chapter, and as usual the Italian legend is in a typically mixed-up mood. Somewhat surprisingly, opener "Joka Joka" sounds like an Afro-cosmic take on Acid Jazz (think jaunty clavs, Tony Allen rhythms, hearty African vocals and goatee-sporting saxophone solos). On the flip, Baldelli goes back to his roots with the sharp guitar solos, kosmiche synths and metronomic, Italo-disco grooves of "Vhanessa", before pitching things down to minus eight with the outer-space synth chug of "Archetipo". With its' delay-laden drum hits, heady sound effects and killer analogue bassline, it's the closest thing on the EP to the cosmic disco blueprint.

Kata Sandi (6:28)
Esaedro (6:11)
Dioxide (4:46)
Review: Daniele Baldelli: Unquestionably one of DJ culture's longest-standing and furthest-thinking selectors drops the penultimate edition of his epic "Cosmic Temple" series with three more exception slabs of creative disco fusion. "Kata Sandi" is a cloud-leaping homage to the new romantic with just a dash of futurism with the trippy roboticised voice processing, "Esaedro" goes for a much more direct dancefloor approach with strong references to Moroder in the initial groove before daringly flipping to a much warmer, smoother jazz dynamic mid-way. Finally "Dioxide" closes the show on a freakier note as a beautifully processed human voice elements are twist inside out with an almost animated energy. Quintessential Baldelli.

Thyratron (6:04)
Diffrazione (5:25)
Inner Light (4:42)
Review: Cosmic don Baldelli commences a new six part project that will culminate in a mix and some beautiful six-piece 12" sleeve art collage. Igniting as he means to go on, each cut shakes and struts with distinctive aspects of Daniele's signature style: "Thyratron" is a ballroom jazz anthem-in-waiting with lavish piano splatters over an insistent disco chug, "Diffrazione" takes us much deeper into Baldelli's psyche with soaring, heavily processed guitars and synths freaking out over a pulsating bulbous bass bed while "Inner Light" brings us back into reality with a mildly Nordic piece of pop-oriented disco, all sensual, breathy vocals and a twinkling synth groove. Bring on the next chapter.

Gandharva (6:12)
Kosmaro (5:14)
Isotropofunk (5:20)
Review: The cover artwork for this third installment in Daniele Baldelli's Cosmic Temple series appears to have been designed by someone under the influence of 1960s strength acid. In many ways, it's fitting, because the music inside is deliciously trippy. Like previous installments in the series, Baldelli is happy to mix things up musically, with the Balearic-inclined Italo-disco dreaminess of A-side "Gandharva" being contrasted by the live-sounding, rock-tinged cosmic disco-funk of "Kosmaro". As for closer "Isotropofunk", it sees Baldelli doing his best Bob James impression, with suitably solid results.

33 VS 45 (3:36)
Review: It's been emotional... A year and a half since "Cosmic Temple 1" first landed, Italian legend Baldelli hits the sixth and final chapter of his series. Across the collection we've experienced some of his wildest ideas and inspirations and it seems he's saved some of the best for last. Don't be alarmed if you lose hair, hours of your life and your mind to the dubby eastern horns and cosmic bubbling 303 of "Taxon", the glam psych guitar jamboree of "Kevlar" and slap bass and sparkling synth syncopation of "33 VS 45". Long may Baldelli continue to don the dance in this esoteric way.

Camomilla - "Queen Of The Night"

De Dion - "Sexy Cola" (extended version)
Sandy Samuel - "I Like Sado Music"
Review: Mondo Groove is one of the leading purveys or disco, Italo and nu-disco and it has been for ages. This new and limited 12" is packed with four hard to find gems from between the years of 1983 and 1988. They have all been taken from the original master tapes for this special reissue. Camomilla's chugging and snappy 'Queen Of The Night' opens up with a squelchy arp and heavenly melodies, Noa-Noa gets more cosmic and De Dion offers the drama and neon colour of 'Sexy Cola' with a fine extended version while Sandy Samuel's 'I Like Sado Music' is a loose limbed percussive workout.

Fog (Morgan Geist edit) (5:16)
Fog (Tiger & Woods remix) (5:38)
Fog (NOIA remix) (6:34)
Fog (Daniele Baldelli & Marco Dionigi remix) (5:21)
Review: Riccardo Cioni's 'Fog' has been passed over to a fine selection of artists for this new remix EP on Mondo Groove. The original is a stone-cold 1984 Italo classic that is dark and obscure and was made in Cioni's garage studio on a PPG Wave 2.2, Linn 9000 and Phophet 5. First to rework it is the legendary Morgan Geist who layers the snappy drums and ricocheting synths, while Tiger & Woods get more playful with some unhinged synth effects and chopped-up vocals. NOIA keeps it raw with some nice analogue electro-disco goodness and Daniele Baldelli & Marco Dionigi team up for a loose limbed and stripped-back rhythm with funky bass riffs.

Go Break (4:34)
Fog (5:43)
Review: Riccardo Cioni is well-known as a mastermind behind early Italo disco, coming up in the Florentine disco scene with his troupe, Bella Band. His later solo outings, first made on the cusp of the 1980s, marked a more electronic shift, and 'Darkness Inside' is a strong example of his best work from that time. First released in '84, the three tracks on this early nu-disco heater cement Cioni's chops as a deft, swift and talented producer, with vocoded jams such as 'Go Break' and city slap-bassers like the title track locking in something timelessly futurologic. It could only ever have been a product of its time, though; these are three serene, yet hard-hitting, proto-nu-disco bangers.

Review: Its first reissue since it was first released in 1985, Giovanni Christani's acoustic ambient album has a cult status among collectors, samplers and leftfield music lovers (as indicated by the triple figure sum original pressings have had in the past) Evocative and alluring with the right amount of rhythmic momentum to give it a narrative and movement; as we flicker and sway from tribal tub-thumping fear to meditative chiming bliss it's clear that Giovanni was decades ahead of his time. Don't sleep on this... You may have to wait another 32 years before another reissue.

Review: Federico De Caroli's Deca project has been waving the flag for Italy's ambient and mystique concrete scene since the mid 1980's. The man's albums, which span a wild and diverse set of experimental sounds, are a rarity these days; this particular reissue, Deca's debut from 1986, is going for near L300 on Discogs, so count this your lucky day. Mass, as the name curiously implies, is a rip-roaring fest of a journey through the deepest and most cavernous of coldwave sounds. With its high-speed pace on the drums and a grainy, grey-scaled coating to round it off, it feels like rave music way before the term was coined. Proto-techno also doesn't it do any justice because tunes like "Inseminoid" or "The Door" go much further than that, heading way out into unknown territories which then became second nature to artists like AFX about a decade later. If you're into your dance music on the industrial side, and if you like it cooked raw, then this will please you endlessly. Be quick, though!

Review: Nigerian disco-boogie act Galaxy's sole, self-titled album has become a holy grail for Afro-boogie collectors over the last few years, so it's no surprise to see Italian crate diggers Mondo Groove giving it the reissue treatment. It was produced by Jake Sollo - one of Nigeria's premier funk and soul musicians of the '70s and '80s - and recorded in the UK, though it was originally only ever released in his home country. Full of killer grooves (Randy Taylor's bass playing stands out), spacey synths and group vocals from the trio known as the 'Galaxy Girls', the set is packed with highlights. Our picks include a sublime, slow-motion reggae-boogie cover of the Police's 'The Bed's Too Big Without You', the intergalactic, club-ready brilliance of 'Galaxy' and the unbridled, life-affirming sweetness of 'Next To You'.

Review: Despite earning his reputation as a composer of religious music and cinematic soundtracks in the 1970s, Marcello Giombini was also something of an electronic music pioneer. He began to use synthesizers heavily in his work from the early '70s onwards, embracing early music computers at the dawn of the 1980s. It was in this period that he recorded Computer Disco, an album featuring a suite of all-electronic dancefloor instrumentals created using some of the earliest music computers. All these years on, it remains a thrilling release; a stripped-back, Italo-disco-era take on Kraftwerk or Yellow Magic Orchestra featuring all manner of intergalactic melodies, spacey synth sounds and off-kilter drum rhythms.

Review: The follow-up to legendary Marcello Giombini's cult Computer Disco album, I Adore Commodore was created to sex up the new home computer and relate its music to the clubs. Complete with a sassy video, the album sees the electronic pioneer reconstruct and recompose soundtracks of the games at the time on a Commodore 64. The results are incredible and pack much more of a punch than the processing power might suggest. The spiralling arpeggio and slapbass of "Jupiter Lander", the fright night theatrical funk of "Space Invaders" and the seafront silliness of "Depth Charge" are just some of the whimsical, funky highlights across an untarnished time capsule album that will bring back many memories for those around the 40 mark.

Featuring four captivating tunes, including the enigmatic 'The Age Of Innocence,' which is a wonderfully peculiar synth-pop rendition of an Okinawan folk song, and 'A Love Note For You,' which is an intimate poetry reading penned by Kuroki herself. Also not to be missed is 'Birth From Time,' which is a mesmerising techno-pop track perfect for DJs seeking hidden gems, and 'Chinatown Love,' an alluring serenade dedicated to the mysteries of Chinatown. Packaged in a vibrant, colourful cover, this release, licensed from the original master tapes, is destined to be a cult favourite.

Review: Since its' release in 1981, this quirky debut album from Louis' Band - a short-lived studio outfit put together by arranger and producer Louis Vanni - has become a sought-after item amongst record collectors. Happily, Mondo Groove has decided to make it available digitally for the first time. It's an eccentric but hugely entertaining affair, featuring a range of tunes that variously touches on jazz-funk, AOR disco, flute-laden instrumental soul, synth-laden rock-and-roll revivalism, sax-laden sleaziness, and the kind of oddball, library music style fair that some may consider 'Balearic'. Given that original vinyl copies are hugely difficult to find, this digital edition is well worth picking up.

Review: 'Italo Disco Donna' compiles the efforts of the many female singers to contribute to the 80s Italo disco scene. Just six tracks across two sides of wax chart everything from romantic ballads to electropop experiments, from the honest and naive emotings of Luna & Black Connection's 'Flame' to the short-circuitted sonic circus that is Patrizia Pellegrino's 'Bandito'. Mondo Groove have once again reestablished themselves as among the best Italo pushers around, as this is a quality EP of truly original gems.

Skydiver (long version) (5:50)
Skydiver (instrumental) (5:00)
Review: Celso Valli produced, composed and arranged this classic slice of Italo disco which now gets a proper reissue job on Mondo Groove. It comes pressed up to 12" with two different versions. On the A-side is 'Skydiver' (vocal - long version) which is a Mediterranean slow burner with lush chords and loose-limed percussion. The male vocal oozes effortlessly cool as funky guitar riffs add extra bite. Flip it over and you will get 'Skydiver' (instrumental) which pairs things back to the gorgeous arrangement. A real pearler of an Italo disco gem.

Review: Originally released in 1981, Good Question by Japanese jazz singer Eri Ohno receives a much needed reissue here courtesy of Italy's Mondo Groove label. The acclaimed 'city pop' masterpiece features influences of boogie, disco and funk and fusion, which is the perfect musical accompaniment to Ohno's smoky and soulful voice. Repressed for the first time from the original Nippon Columbia master tapes, this is sure to be one highly sought after limited edition release that many will be eager to get their hands on. - don't sleep!

Let's Dance (5:20)
Review: Moana Pozzi was primarily a pornographic actor, but during the 1980s and early 90s also notched up a number of club and crossover hits in her native Italy. This 12" from Mondo Groove brings together her three most sought-after cuts, adding in an extra unreleased treat in the shape of 'Bonita', a breezy-and-sleazy house-not-house number of the Balearic kind that was apparently a firm favourite in her 'spicy' live shows. Perhaps the best known of the included classic cuts is 'Supermacho (Extended)', where Pozzi's sleazy and dead-eyed vocals rise above a throbbing Italo-disco groove and chiming melodies. Elsewhere, 'Impulso Di Sesso' is a more dubbed-out and dreamy chunk of eccentric Italo-disco, while 'Let's Dance' is a synth-sporting, Madonna-influenced synth-pop treat.

Artificial Intelligence (DJ Ralf remix) (9:40)
Review: Paolo Tarsi, enigmatic Italian producer of electronic and chamber music, follows up an impressive full length on Rebirth last year with "Artificial Intelligence EP" for Cattolica-based imprint Mondo Groove. Dark Italo disco on Giallo kind of vibes throughout - the EP presents three remixes of the title track by Italian pop outsider Andrea Tich, Daniele Baldelli and Marco Dionig with their slow, lo-slung and cosmic rework and DJ Ralf (founder of Laterra) who brings things to a close with a hypnotic polyrhythmic version that rides on an acidic house groove.

Review: Juan Pablo Torres was an accomplished Cuban trombonist, composer and arranger who worked with the Algo Nuevo ensemble and Buena Vista The Next Generation amongst others. In 1984 he released the simply magical Cuba Disco LP on Italian label On The Rocks. With Algo Nuevo as the backing band and recorded in Milan, it's a smooth-as-silk entry in Torres' considerable back catalogue with some magic grooves buoyed by the effervescent musicality from each and every player. Much more than a disco record, Torres' distinctive Cuban flair permeates every corner of this magical record, which has been out of print since its original release and now finally makes it way back to the spotlight thanks to Mondo Groove.

Spataneri Sebastiano Aria - "Vagabondo Non Sono" (2:56)
Review: The excellent Mondo Groove label out of Italy takes us on another worldly disco trip across eight fantastic cuts. Nuccio Di Vico immediately hook you in with the lazy rhythms and starry synths of 'Lasciati Amare' and from there Momo Yang gets more funky on 'Peggio Per Te' and Patrizia Caselli ups the ante with the funky bass riffs and tooting horn arrangements of 'Un Amore Anonimo.' Highlights on the B-side, which is just as good, incudes the more steamy and erotic sounds of Gloria Piedimonte's 'Chi Sei' and percolating disco funk of Spataneri Sebastiano Aria's 'Vagabondo Non Sono.' Super sunny music.
