Review: Yes! David Vunk returns to helm the next Moustache Records release, with a 12" seemingly in honour of his pooch Bowie which comes housed in a rather luxurious gatefold sleeve. Recorded earlier this year in Vunk's home studio in downtown Rotterdam, this three track release commences in heavily filtered fashion with "Forever Always" a production blessed with idiosyncrasies that grab your attention immediately - the off kilter drum break, smudgey vocal treatment and rolling low kick drums give the track that sensation that immediately sets it apart. Turn over for the swaggering Arp and 808 filled disco drama of "Disco Sysex" which doesn't really prepare you for the rusted, paranoia inducing techno monster that is "Vroezenpark." Great release!

Review: Moustache Records continues to excel in our affections, as label boss David Vunk follows that excellent Bowie EP with this superb two track collaboration with fellow Rotterdam rogue Ben La Desh. Those in need of a classic Lowlands take on Italo Disco will drink their fill of lead track "Turner" which wonderfully glides across the grooves sounding like it could slip into an infinite loop without ever losing any of its glistening charm. In contrast, "Deep Valley" finds the duo in a much darker mood, swiftly locking into an ever descending murked out subaqueous techno groove filtered with all manner of cavernous textures.

Review: Lone Wolf McQuade and Freezy Freeze (to pick just two of their aliases) reunite for another Monkeyshop saga. Expressive and loaded with contrast, "Ozzyism" thumps with heady abandon. More disco than electro (but still crisp and edgy on the riff), it pounds as hard as Moustache can handle before giving us a much slower rub down with the spacious and mildly acidic "Ambibarb". Rutherfort adds more of a twinkle to the lead track while retaining the full thrust tempo while "Barbara BAM" is a much denser, heavier piece of analogue soul that's almost crunchy in its texture.

Review: After an extended period focusing on establishing the Moustache Techno offshoot with two excellent releases from Mark Du Mosch and Gesloten Cirkel, the always intriguing Dutch label reach into the past to reissue Neurox's mid eighties dark wave classic A Raving Night. Originally released via the short-lived Celesta Records imprint in 1984, the original seven inch version is still considered a rarity these days - a brief glance at the listed price on Discogs will confirm it for those unbelieving types - so kudos to Moustache for remastering both the title track and its B Side "Romantic" pressing them loud on this twelve inch. In addition, the Danish branch of Cyber Dance's worldwide Italo squad known as Flemming Dalum teams up with Steen Gjerulff to deliver two remixes of "A Raving Night" on the flip.

Review: Moustache Records' occasional series of multi-artist EPs, You Can Trust a Man With a Moustache, finally reaches its fourth instalment, some 13 years after volume one landed in stories. The formula remains the same: think muscular, throbbing and wildly camp fusions of High-NRG, Italo-disco and turn-of-the-80s European electro-disco. This is arguably best exemplified via the throbbing, Bobby Orlando-meets-Giorgio Moroder thrust of John Noseda's 'Climax', which fittingly builds to a breathless conclusion as the track progresses. Elsewhere, Perdu brilliantly doffs a cap to Pet Shop Boys' chart-topper 'Heart' on 'Mind Phrases' (we think Chris Lowe would approve), while there's a similar mid-80s PSB feel about the shiny chords, throbbing sequenced bass and memorable lead lines of Kendal's 'Mort Sur La Dancefloor'.

Review: Yes! David Vunk's Moustache label resurfaces after a period of quiet and does so with a Italo-kissed swagger one expects from the iconic Rotterdam operation with the eagerly anticipated Moustache Italo Anthem from The Problems. It's not quite clear who The Problems is/are but why bother with such trivialities when "Moustache Italo Anthem" feels like an immediate Italo classic? Throbbing basslines, eerie synths and some brilliantly cheesy piano lines haven't sounded quite so satisfying for some time. The accompanying remix from David Vunk toughens up the rhythm and lends the track a degree of enticement for Italo loving techno selectors.
