Spellbound (10:07)
Spellbound (Mandar remix) (8:59)
Review: Following releases from Huerta, Mandar and Makcim & Levi last year, Oscillat kicks off 2019 with an assured, brooding club 12" from long-serving producer Matthew Dekay.
Since surfacing in 2001, Dutch producer Dekay has put out a formidable body of work under a variety of aliases and in collaboration with producers including Lee Burridge and Maher Daniel. His sultry tech house approach has graced labels as highly regarded as Innervisions, Cecille, Aras and Maeve, and now he comes to Oscillat with "Spellbound," a track that finds him diving deeper than ever before into hypnotic, swinging rhythms loaded with atmosphere and longing.
On the B side, Oscillat bosses Mandar (Lazare Hoche, Malin Genie and Samuel Andre Madsen) take Dekay's original and inject it with an infectious peak time energy, creating a straight-up, acid-flecked workout that sits in neat contrast with the immersive shuffle of the original.

Are You Here? (6:10)
Review: Following the essential String Theory 12" from label bosses Mandar, Oscillat Music returns to the fray with a new EP from emergent talent Huerta, who recently popped up on In Dust We Trust alongside Jon Sable. Drunk Mystic leads in with the twitchy, head-tripping refinement of "CBDB," threading an urgent tapestry of crystalline percussion through undulating pads and other atmospheric flourishes. "Kjaro Skuro" takes a groovier approach with skipping drums and bouncing blips, while retaining the same immersive tones in the middle distance. "Drunk Mystic" is a consummate slice of heavy-lidded deep house, and "Are You Here?" channels some Motor City influences into a dynamic, deep techno diving bell of a track.

HW1
Jelmeratu
Allwin
Review: Makcim & Levi have been taking their time sneaking out stone cold minimal house killers on Raum...Musik, Apollonia and Lazare Hoche in the past, and now they step up to Mandar's label Oscillat Music with the snappily titled On A Springroll EP. The title track is a bugging, funking workout with splashes of psychedelia swirling in between the chirpy bassline. "HW1" is a dreamier affair for the deep, late morning crowd, and "Jelmeratu" slips into that frame of mind perfectly as well. "Allwin" has sharper edges, keeping things as stripped as possible for the perfect functional micro house tool.

Sense Of Swing (7:47)
Propter (7:13)
Redskap (8:51)
Ulux (7:07)
Review: REPRESS ALERT: Following a recent outing under the Mandar alias alongside studio pals Samuel Andre Masden and Charlie Naffah, Nick Putman presents his first solo single under the Malin Genie guise for two years. Predictably, he explores a range of deep house styles over the course of a four-track EP that's both quietly confident and largely impressive. There's a real bump to "Sense of Swing", despite the presnce of warm, fluid keys, while "Propter" successfully joins the dots between loopy tech-house and shimmering deepness. The techno influence is more obvious on the flip, where "Redskap" and "Ulux" both derive potency from the hypnotic nature of Putman's immaculately produced groove.

Poisoned Words
Review: REPRESS ALERT: Mandar are back on Oscillat Music following their stunning five-disc LP from last year, and the deep house super group are sounding as vital as ever. "String Theory" holds court over the A side and promises to be the soundtrack to many a heart-stirring moment under starry skies this summer. The titular strings are a powerful force in this track, bringing a classy brand of emotion to the slinky dancefloor tones Mandar are best known for. "Poisoned Worlds" is a deeper club cut that places the emphasis on crafty drum science for after hours crew, providing a neat balance to the show-stopping tones of the A side.

Review: The ever-essential deep house super group Mandar make the leap to an album in fine style after a few years of unbeatable EPs on their own Oscillat Music label and elsewhere. The self-titled LP is spread across a whopping five 12"s, but it gives latecomers a chance to catch up on some of their previous smashers such as "La Bocca" and "Delon" as well as presenting some fresh wares from the joint creative forces of Lazare Hoche, Malin Genie and Samuel Andre Madsen. The grooves bump just right, the moods unfurl like toffee-flavoured smoke and with these 12 jams Mandar prove once again why they're at the top of the deep house game.

La Bocca (8:44)
Lawed Mack (9:02)
Review: In the lead up to the release of their debut album early next year, Mandar has decided to out a trio of 12" samplers. This is the first of the three, and contains two fresh new cuts from the four-man outfit. On the A-side you'll find "La Bocca", which craftily works dub-influenced textures and fluid electronic motifs around a bold, bumpin' and bass-heavy groove. The inherent dreaminess of their productions can be further admired on flipside "Lawed Mack". It's notably deeper and hazier than its' predecessor, with a groove that shuffles, rather than bangs, but retains a percussive solidity that suggests it would sound fantastic over a decent sound system.

Poisoned Words (Ricardo Villalobos remix 1) (6:35)
Poisoned Words (Ricardo Villalobos remix 2) (13:39)
Review: The Mandar dream team of Lazare Hoche, Malin Genie and S.A.M revisit "Poisoned Words" with a double dose of remixes from none other than Ricardo Villalobos. The minimal overlord lives up to expectations on both flips of the original track, needling into the tiniest sonic details and holding down an insistent groove that will sit beautifully in the mix. The A side features a simmering version that revels in wriggling sound design with ample space to flex and mutate, while the B side stretches out into a quintessential Villalobos wormhole of a remix. Unmissable sonics from one of the scene's true legends.

Nobody (Mandar remix) (7:32)
Review: Low-slung stuff from the Nabucco label bossman, with the original just as primed for afternoon party vibes as it is the earliest morning sets. Gradually building momentum from its pared back stepping opening, soaring synth lines and subtle vocal stabs invoke the glory days of West Coast house- as smooth as it is uplifting, warm and inviting. On the flip, Mandar's remix retains most of the same elements, placing a more emphasis on the keyboard stabs and, although running for less time, has a greater sense of journey. Its dubby mid section allowing plenty of room for jazz inflected pianos to usher in smoky, chilled-out vibes in direct contrast to the punchier moments. The result is arguably even more useful that the original, and certainly something capable of pulling dancers in and not letting go.
