Merry Crisis EP
Cat: OSM 009. Rel: 09 Jun 20
Techno
  1. Hysteria (6:50)
  2. Just Some (7:03)
  3. Merry Crisis (6:31)
  4. Nu Leaves (5:52)
Review: Given his chosen moniker for this project, you'd expect the music on Robert Dietz's DJ Discipline records to be stern, aggressive and angry. This particular EP - his second under the name for Osman - is certainly tough, but it's actually far funkier, melodious and considered than you might expect. For proof, check out opener "Hysteria", where busy, bouncy beats come cloacked in starry synths and supersonic synthesizer motifs, before admiring the glacial, deep space shimmer of the analogue-rich, hybrid electro/techno number "Just Some". Dietz flips the script on "Merry Crisis", which cleverly wraps bleeping melodies reminiscent of The Age of Love's "Age of Love" around a loose-limbed electro-breaks beat, whole closing cut "Nu Leaves" is a dashing slab of retro-futurist sci-fi techno rich in chiming melodies and ear-pleasing riffs.

Minimal House/Tech House
  1. Loopy Schneider (6:03)
  2. Make My Day (7:02)
  3. EFX/SFX (6:12)
Review: With some great releases in recent times by Tonnovelle and Robert Dietz aka DJ Disciple, Frankfurt label Osman is back with a serving of retro techno shenanigans by hometown hero Martyne: head of the revered Traffic collective and label out of neighbouring Offenbach am Main. The "EFX/SFX EP" features some solid gear; the tempo of "Loopy Schneider" channels the vibe of late '90s UK breaks by way of electro and acid techno, while the bouncy bleep techno of Berlin's dancefloors can be experienced via "Make My Day" and the neon-lit robot funk of the title track will take you deeper into the afterhours.

No Future Slap EP
Cat: OSM 005. Rel: 04 Dec 18
Minimal House/Tech House
  1. Destroyer (6:27)
  2. No Future Slap (7:05)
  3. Ed2 (6:05)
  4. Trippy Bucket Hits (6:37)
Review: Following up his terrific long player for hometown heroes Pressure Traxx earlier this year, Dario Reimann returns with this fresh offering for fellow Frankfurters Osman. In the same vein as previous releases by the likes of locals Philip Boss and Harry Wills, you can be sure that Reimann will keep on with the new sound of the Rhein Main region on his No Future Slap EP which was very much inspired by the early '90s style of UK techno. From the woozy afterhours bleep-funk of "Destroyer", the boompty minimal house of the title track or the fiercely hypnotic tunnel vision of "Trippy Bucket Hits" - this is the best of retro perceived through a modern lens.
