Live @ The Warehouse Project 2008 (6:00)
Review: The sporadic Paranoid London imprint returns with another single from the outfit devoted to championing acid tracks with old school production values. The A-side features "Paris Dub 1", a bass heavy example of understated 303 manipulations complete with snappy 808 percussion, which is complemented by an instrumental version on the flip for those who like their acid pure. Rounding out the 12" is a cut recorded and improvised entirely live at Manchester's Warehouse Project in 2008, but sounding like it could have been lifted from the mixer of an acid party from Chicago in '85.

Review: Since it was first released in 2014, Paranoid London's self-titled debut album has become increasingly difficult to find on vinyl, with those who own copies seemingly unwilling to part company with them. Helpfully, the hardware-loving duo has responded to demand by pressing up a fresh coloured vinyl edition in honour of Record Store Day 2020. If you missed out first time around, you should really grab this chance to cop a copy, because it really is an awesome set of club-ready jackers, late night techno throb-jobs and hard-wired machine funk - all crafted using little more than dusty old machines and a deep-rooted knowledge of what makes acid house enthusiasts tick.

Feelin Butts (6:13)
Wanka Beats (7:47)
Review: Is there anyone out there making house as raw, fucked up and visceral as Paranoid London right now? The pair make sounds that hark back to the scuzzy days of early Chicago while bringing plenty of fresh ideas. Their Pledits series hits volume number three and moves to vinyl for the first time to mark the occasion. This new 12" is a direct to dance floor banger with 'Feelin Butts' slapping away on a relentless coruscated bassline and with ghetto vocal loops over the top. 'Wanka Beats' is less in your face but just as physical as it locks you in ragged loops, caustic synths and scintillating percussion that is pure late night warehouse music.

Review: When it comes to jackin' Chicago style acid house revivalism, few can hold a candle to Paranoid London. As this long-awaited second album proves, the duo is the undisputed masters of sweaty, TB-303 driven jack-tracks and - as recent single "(Vi-Vi) Vicious Games" and LP opener "Starting Fights" prove - classic-sounding vocal cuts that recall the glory years of Fingers, Inc in the mid-to-late 1980s. Interestingly, "PL" boasts far more collaborations than we've seen from Paranoid London before, including a string of ragged club cuts blessed with evocative spoken word vocals, a thrusting acid throb-job with lead vocals by Simon Topping and a suitably twisted, machine-driven hook up with Arthur Baker and Alan Vega (the raw and weighty "Angel Of Hell").

Banged Up The Slammer (5:22)
Tooled Up (3:37)
Review: Paranoid London's latest offering, the 'Pledits 5' EP, is a veritable sonic feast for the senses. The tracks feature a diverse array of samples, including very subtle snippets of vintage spoken-word recordings, woven together with a precision that could rival the accuracy of a humanoid electron microscope armed with a pin. Subterranean basslines, acid sloshes and rim-heavy drum rammings make up this three-track monster.

Music's Insane (6:58)
From The Back (7:46)
Poignant Dexter (6:07)
Review: For obvious reasons, Paranoid London tend not to say much about their popular 'Pledits', series, which see them rework, sample, combine and breathe new life into a variety of classic cuts. What we can say is that every single track in the series so far bangs hard and has been caned by DJs with taste. 'Music's Insane', the opening cut from their latest batch of reworks, is another weighty workout - a restless Chicago jack-attack blessed with moody pitched-down vocal snippets, 8-bit electronics and a mind-mangling bassline. On 'From The Back', they add reverb-laden vocal snippets to a hybrid beatbox electro/Chicago house beat, while 'Poignant Dexter' is a breathlessly energetic, drum-machine driven chunk of acid house/ghetto-house fusion that will ignite peak-time dancefloors.

Give Me The (6:53)
Our Man Though (7:09)
Review: Back in July, hardware fetishists and acid house revivalists Paranoid London returned with We Come To Rock, their first 12" single for three years. Here they build on that success with two more razor-sharp, 303-enhanced hardware jams for sweat-soaked basements and pitch-black warehouses. Of the two, it's the more ragged and psychedelic "Our Man Though" that hits home hardest, thanks largely to the combo layering waves of twisted acid lines on top of distorted, teak-tough drum machine beats. "Give Me The" is a little more sedate in comparison, but still impresses thanks to its smart combination of a menacing groove, pitched-down vocal samples, and occasional, undulating acid motifs.

Review: Given their famously militant approach to music formats, it's a surprise to see Paranoid London's previously vinyl-only 2014 debut album finally being issued on CD. For those who missed out first time around, it's well worth checking. As you might expect, it makes great use of both vintage analogue equipment and similarly old skool influences, in turn doffing a cap to Phuture-style Chicago acid, Inner City, hip-house, Green Velvet, Dance Mania style ghetto-house, and stripped-back, dancefloor-friendly machine soul. Despite the ragged nature of some of the material, it's both hugely listenable and hangs together impressively - no mean feat given the DJ-friendly nature of the tracks. It all adds up to a retro-futurist treat.

Review: There's a fair chance that you'll have missed Paranoid London's four singles to date; they were pressed in limited quantities, appeared in stores with no promotion, and quickly became must-have items for those obsessed with stripped back machine music and ragged acid house. Mercifully, the mysterious, no-holds-barred combo has decided to put out a double album containing much of this material, alongside a smattering of previously unheard cuts (including, most excitingly, a collaboration with Detroit legend DJ Genesis). The hard-to-find classics still sparkle - check the brilliantly sparse-but-heavy "Paris Dub 1" (with regular vocalist Paris Brightledge) and ragged "Transmission 5" (featuring a killer spoken vocal from Mutado Pintado) - while the new cuts are thankfully up to similarly high standard. Recommended.

Review: Acid house hooligans Paranoid London are back with another session of raw hardware driven shenanigans on the We Come To Rock EP. On the A side, the title track is one totally infectious and funky groove which boldly declares "We come to rock!" no guesses where that sample comes from and that perfect amount of dust and overdrive coats this gutsy vintage flavoured groove. On the flip "Buck Stoppin" sounds like classic Egyptian Lover on this surefire DJ tool with an emphasis on some killer vintage drum machine rhythms.

Review: It's testament to the timeless nature of Paranoid London's self-titled 2014 debut album that it continues to be periodically reissued on vinyl. This is not the first represss, but it is undoubtedly one of the nicest yet, with the jacking, machine-driven double album now being presented on brilliant white vinyl. If you don't own the album on vinyl already it's well worth picking up, with the numerous TB-303 and TR-909-heavy highlights including the sweat-soaked opener 'Light Tunnel', the ghetto booty influenced 'Headtrack', two killer collaborations with Paris Brightledge ('Paris Dub 1', 'Paris Dub 3') and the 'Acid Trax' style madness of 'Machines Our Coming'[sic].

Pleasure Boys Are Just My Size (6:01)
PL Off The Groove (9:19)
Review: Hackney outfit Paranoid London make the sleaziest, filthiest, more raw and real beats around. It is macho machine music that blows the rest out of the water. The duo are also dab hands at edits, though, as their Pledits series is showing. This second one tackles b-boy classics, New Romantic bonus beats and some super Detroitisms. 'Pleasure Boys Are Just My Size' has crashing hits and stiff grooves, coarse claps and dehumanised vocals that make you want to jack. 'PL Off The Groove' is a warehouse banger with corrugated basslines and splintered drums that build the pressure and cannot fail to blow up the floor.

Review: When it comes to wresting maximum emotion and energy from analogue electronic instruments, few artists can match acid revivalists Paranoid London. They've certainly made their machines sing on Arseholes, Liars & Electronic Pioneers, their third full length excursion. Kicking off with the EBM-meets-acid growl of Joe Lewis hook-up 'Love One Self', the set includes such gems as 'People (Ah Yeah)' (an ambient acid number featuring Bobby Gillespie on vocals), the hard-wired acid trippiness of 'Up Is Down' (with DJ Genesis), the squelchy and spacey excellence of 'Start To Fade' (with Josh Caffe), the acid-electro brilliance of 'GRINDR' and a genuine future anthem in Mutado Pintado collab 'The Motion'.

Linked In (with Paris Brightledge) (5:55)
Review: Previously, we'd have known exactly what to expect from a brand-new Paranoid London release: TB-303 driven acid house jack-tracks. Annihilate The World and Start Again, their first EP of fresh material since 2019, bucks this trend, setting aside their beloved acid lines in favour of a more mixed-up selection of hardware-heavy workouts. Check first the droning, mind-mangling bass, hypnotic techno beats and creepy chords of the excellent title track, before admiring the breathless, psychedelic techno-jack of 'External In'. Warmer and dreamier fare is provided via melodious electro number 'The State of That', before Detroit veteran Paris Brightledge adds a wonderfully emotive, almost melancholic vocal to analogue deep house-meets-Motor City techno cut 'Linked In'.

Paris Dub 1 (live At The Warehouse Project 2008) (5:59)
Review: First released way back in 2012, Paris Dub 1 - so-called because it features original Chicago house and techno vocalist Paris Brightledge - is one of the tracks that established Paranoid London's reputation as this century's foremost purveyors of revivalist acid house and warehouse-ready jack tracks. This timely reissue, which arrives on white vinyl, features all three versions featured on the original 12. There's the full vocal version, where Brightledge's impeccable vocals seemingly hang in the air above a killer acid house groove, the duo's instrumental take, and a more fully featured, TB-303 heavy live recording from the Warehouse Project, 2008. A modern acid classic that's as good as any of the 1980s tracks it pays tribute to.

Paris Dub 2 (demo)
Review: Across a smattering of releases, the Paranoid London crew have built up something of a cult following without having to rely on the usual press or promo channels. How they do that, you say? By specialising in their own distinct brand of acid house, blending dark analogue productions with live vocals from exotically named artists such as Mulato Pintado and Paris Brightledge. With last year's Paris Dub 1 currently the subject of some high prices amongst vinyl speculators, a second edition arrives in timely fashion and the combination of Paranoid London's Acid and Paris Brightledge's vocal once again works wonders. Yes this is simple, but some of the best house music is just that. Do not sleep.

Review: Given that acid revivalists Paranoid London have yet to put a foot wrong, it's no surprise to find that "(Vi-Vi) Vicious Games" is another absolute belter. It's taken from the duo's forthcoming album and features sometime Posthuman collaborator Josh Caffe channeling his inner Robert Owens and Jamie Principle over a retro-futurist backing track. In its full length, the track brilliantly combines Paranoid London's jacking drums and thrusting acid bass with dreamy chords and just the right amount of glassy-eyed melodic flourishes. It sounds like a classic TRAX release given the Paranoid London treatment, which I'm sure we all agree is a very good thing indeed. If you're in the mood for something even sleazier and more driving, the Bam Bam-inspired Dub has it covered.

Once again hooking up with vocalist Mutado Pintado, the track sees a sinister spoken word vocal laid over a subtle acid line, complete with raw drum machine manoeuvres, while the flip sees a straight instrumental. Stripped back, but deadly as the last - don't sleep on this one...

Review: House and techno badboys Paranoid London are proceeding the release of their second album with a bunch of singles from it. First up is "Cult Hero" featuring Simon Topping - one of many guest vocalists on the full length. It's a bristling acid house cut with tight, corrugated drums and relentless 303 mania ripping up the groove. Topping's deadpan vocals are layered over the top and bring to mind the more anthemic work of Depeche Mode. "Club Mix" is even more caustic and kinetic, while closer "Slow Mix" strips back everything but for the lunching drums and demonic vocals of Topping.

Review: Paranoid London are named as such for a reason: the English megacity really does instill a low-level sense of paranoia and dread. So why the hell not lighten up now and again? That's just what this dubious duo have gone and done with 'Suck A Dick'; replacing their usual EP-cover representation of Big Ben with a giant phallus, Paranoid London have successfully drawn an astute analogy between masculine dominance and the totalitarian dominance of the state. Featuring the unmistakable vocals of regular collaborator Mutado Pintado, it's a guaranteed floor-filler, unusually humorous for the pair's austere, distorted repertoire.
