Review: As part of the 2016 Ghent Film Festival, the first ever 'greatest hits' album for Ryuichi Sakamoto's soundtrack work was released. This retrospective LP compiles the best selections from the entirety of his career, from Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence to The Revenant. Now reissued 5 years later by Silva Screen, the album sees a wider, exclusive white vinyl edition, capturing the swelling pangs endemic to Sakamoto's music for screen.

Review: Formerly known as Aerie, David Gate and Robert Andrews formed The Land Of Yrx in Shrewsbury in 1982, and were unquestionably light years ahead of their time. Apart from anything else, some of what we have here might be labelled chip music, owing much to video game soundtracks, the only problem being video games at that point didn't actually have soundtracks per se.

The pair would put out a slew of tapes between 1983 and 1993, before moving to self-released CD-Rs. This vinyl release compiles work from across that history and makes it clear more people should be aware of their efforts. Tacks like 'Annus Mirabilis 1984', for example, are staggeringly beautiful and inventive, 'And Damn The Consequences' could be proto-acid house, while 'The Crucial Suss Composition' is a blend of ambient drone resplendent with this subtly spiralling and emotive electronic symphony.

Lozells Drone Survey
Flyover Lament
Edifices
Review: North London label Polytechnic Youth return with a veritable blissed-out breaks raver from Self Modifier (real name Peter Duggal). A posthuman breakbeat transcension if we've ever heard one (the artist name Self Modifier really says it all), 'Lozells Drone Survey' is oddly blissful when juxtaposed with its clinical, machinic name, as well as the knowledge that Duggal is the current partner-in-crime of ex-Kraftwerk legend Wolfgang Flur. With the EP recalling Duggal's childhood spent growing up in inner city Birmingham during the Thatcher years, 'Edifices' and 'Flyover Lament' are two affirmations of the escape into musical flights of fancy, amid a climate of fear and imminent nuclear threats. So take heed, contemporary subjects of dystopia; the lessons learned then may apply to now; sit back and soak in the string-laden nostalgia of this wonderwork.

Coldwave/Synth
Always Waiting (1:54)
Dream Within A Dream (4:49)
Copine Froide (4:51)
Madness (4:17)
Zigeuner Am Klavier (3:48)
Danse Dans Les Grottes (4:20)
Review: As the title suggests, all of the material on this new album from Shibuya Station was recorded at the eponymous station in Japan. The music has previously been flawed as part of various compilations but has never been in one place before. It's leftfield minimal synth with an electronic brightness and cold but alluring rhythms made on gear such as various Korgs, Moog Little Phatty, Moog Voyager, various Roland keyboards and VST synthesisers such as the ARP Odyssey. All that defines the vintage textures of the sounds across six captivating tracks.
