Cat: PBX 030. Rel: 03 Sep 20
Electro
  1. Monochromatic Images (5:01)
  2. Recordman (6:24)
  3. Out There (3:16)
  4. Out There (K1 mix) (5:12)
  5. Recordman (Minimal Vox mix) (5:12)
Review: It's time to tune into those weird and wonderful frequencies from Alien FM once again. This time the intergalactic space travelers serve up their Monochromatic Images, a five track transmission from outer space that leaves you breathless. The titular track is a busy and bumping electro cut with organic pianos draped over squelchy and synthetic bass. "Recordman" is a much crunchier and more dystopian affair complete with freaky vocals, then "Out There" is a stripped back, sublime electro rhythm that is perfectly mysterious. Two further mixes close out a super tight EP.

Detropolis EP
Cat: PBX 23. Rel: 12 Nov 12
Techno
  1. Detropolis (original mix)
  2. Detropolis (Aux 88 Mad Scientist mix)
  3. Detropolis (Detroit vocal Mental mix)
  4. Detropolis (M5 Central Station mix)
Review: The enigmatic Optic Nerve aka Keith Tucker returns with the aptly named Detropolis 12" on Anthony "Shake" Shakir's Puzzlebox imprint. Deep sea melodies, stabby chords and ravey basslines litter the EP which floats somewhere between shuffling techno and bubbling electro of the Detroit kind. Optic Nerve's soothing original is a fast-paced slice of electro-techno gold, while Aux 88 up the percussive elements of Tucker's original, escorting a plodding bassline from out back to up front. The "Detroit vocal Mental mix" sheds all but the basics and pumps up the bass, using a vocodered "Detropolis" vocal as its centrepiece. Discreet Drexciyan pads and Model 500 magic flash throughout the "M5 Central Station Mix", closing a quintessential Detroit classic.

Modular World
Cat: PBX 29. Rel: 04 May 20
Electro
  1. Modular World (4:27)
  2. Schematixs (5:30)
Review: After putting it on hiatus three years ago, Detroit electro legend Keith Tucker has decided to bring back the Puzzlebox label he launched with Anthony 'Shake' Shakir way back in 1995. He's at the controls for this comeback release, which astonishingly is also the sometime Aux88 member's first solo single since 2015. He kicks things off with "Modular World", a creepy but funk-fuelled slab of intergalactic electro that boasts whispered vocals, spacey sounds and the same up-tempo energy levels as Aux88's 1990s output. Over on the flip it's all about "Schematixs", a bleeping and unearthly affair that sits somewhere between Kraftwerk and Egyptian Lover.
