Review: Roh!s Records is a Sardinian record label based in Berlin, founded by Andrea Porcu in late 2007. Between 2007 and 2016 the label moved to different countries such as Belgium. They offer a much needed re-issue of Tetsuya Nakamura aka Arc Of Doves' 2014 album "Never Let Me Go" which features emotive piano lines gently floating triumphantly above sharp breakbeats and providing a wonderful contrast. On the flip "Wish You Were Here" is more sombre and mellow, showcasing more of Nakamura's expressive piano skills.

Review: REPRESS ALERT!! The Sardinian ROHS! imprint based in Berlin, has cut two killer dubs from the depths of Babe Roots studio, served up in DIY style and fashion on a very limited vinyl-only run.
First up, is the Rhythm & Sound inspired 'Jah Nuh Dub' trodding in the lower regions of the sonic spectrum, submerged in bassline and distilled dubwise etiquette, with the filtered chords sprawling across the underbelly in the slow envelope of bass and drum, meditatively.
On the other side, is the real gem (if you ask us) - 'Bless Dub' is a monstrously deep version of The Revolutionaries classic 'Kunta Kinte'.
This rhythm has been versioned a lot already, but Babe Roots interpretation is justified in it's sense for deep soundsystem aesthetic, with a much more introspective yet equally uplifting edge... This one could also make some pretty serious vibrations on a big speaker - Beware.

Review: Berlin-based composer Andrea Burelli's new album Sonic Mystics for Poems (of Life and Death of a Phoenix) is an autobiographical work that draws on the vulnerability of the human existence. It takes the form of 15 pieces written for polyphonic voices, strings, and synthesizers and arrives on super limited, hand-numbered 180 g vinyl. The pieces are all intricately constructed with rich harmonic structures taking inspiration from experimental electronica, classical from both the West and the Middle East, plus folk from across all of Europe. It's a beautiful, confessional and thought-provoking work that makes a devastating impact despite its delicate artistry.

It would be easy to try and apply it to Carlos Giustini, for example, but the term only bears relevance in some parts. There are moments on this immersive collection of six tracks that almost feel like chamber music, choral moods without any voices or hint of a choir, for example. And the timbre is such we can almost feel the walls of a symphony hall around us, but the performance would be one of such profound intimacy that setting seems wrong. Forget overtures, then, this is more about ambient refrains that emerge, transcend and reform. Distant noises echo subtly, never fully realising themselves, but creating tangible textures that guide us through each piece - aural breadcrumbs ensuring that when we must, it's still possible to find a way out from under the depths.

Review: Helge Tommervag is Mind Over MIDI, a Norwegian producer who makes gorgeous ambient music that takes influence and inspiration from the icy winds, snowy vistas and frozen landscapes out of his windows. Here on "Habitat Debris" he serves up two beautiful pieces that were recorded in 2006, but have been finally mixed and arranged in 2019. Part 1 features plaintive piano playing as a lonely lead synth makes for subtle movement onwards. Part 2 has a more frosty texture and is even more empty but no less impactful. The sense of isolation is crushing, yet inviting, as you're lost with gentle pads and the sound of a distant tree swaying in the wind.

Review: Andrea Porcu's ROHS! label has been a long time fixture in the ambient field, from net label origins to limited CDr and vinyl releases from a host of respected underground operators. This latest release, two years in the making, features two original tracks from PURL. These sublime ambient pieces, "Slow Poem" and "Cellar Door," move in slow, atmospheric ripples of submerged rhythm and glacial melodics, giving plenty of space for inventive remixes from Segue, Wanderwelle and many more. It's a perfect double pack of dreamy drifters for the chill-out room crowd to sink into.

Review: Having checked our records, it's been a few years since the shelves at Juno were graced with some music from the studio of Italian dub techno exponent Fabio Scalabroni, so the arrival of a new 12" brandishing his work is cause for celebration. The Rohs! Records label operated by Belgium-dwelling compatriot Andrea Porcu is who we can thank for coaxing some new cuts out of Scalabroni with the Roots EP suggesting he's lost none of his production verve. "Root A" will appeal to fans of the punchier tracks from the Giegling discography whilst the B side track has a real slinky vibe to the groove that really gets in your head and stays there.
