Highway EP
Cat: 7SR 033. Rel: 17 Dec 20

Deep House
Highway (6:11)
Thank Goodness I Found You (6:28)
Now The Clouds Are Gone (7:49)
Thank Goodness I Found You (Ambient mix) (5:23)
Review: If you like your techno and ambient music to be melodious, ambitious, detailed and life-affirming, you need this EP from John Beltran in your life. In keeping with the Michigan producer's career to date, there's plenty of subtle variety to be found across the EP, which naturally touches on many of his recurring musical themes. Opener 'Highway' is an inspired slab of sparkling, melody-driven deep house/Motor City techno fusion, while 'Thank Goodness I Found You' sees Beltran wrap layered ambient chords and swirling choral samples around a crunchy, broken beat-influenced groove. Over on the flip he switches to tactile deep techno mode on the sublime 'Now The Clouds Are Gone', before serving up a sublime ambient mix of 'Thank Goodness I Found You'. In a word: brilliant!

Review: Graham Wilson and Domenic Cappello's Seventh Sign Recordings label has truly developed into a bastion of quality electronic music over the 15 years it has been active, calling on some highly-respected artists for contributions. Dan Curtin ranks up there with the best of them, with the Cleveland native a key artist in shaping the techno sound and much more! The recent revival of his Metamorphic label seems to have inspired a new wave of creativity in Curtin, demonstrated on The Waters Of Mars, this five track 12" of hardware driven, organic techno that ripples with future thinking intent and no small degree of propulsive intensity.

Estroe - "Bellisimore"
The Machinists - "Jerk It"
Automaton - "Dubtron"
Review: Massive track alert! Dutchy Estroe drops on of the best techno tracks of the year. Fuck... this is so sweet. Detroit techno at its best...I don't even try to describe it. just check it out. But don't forget the flip side. Not sure who the Machinist are, but if Chicago sound is your thing you can get one of the coolest Chicago tracks in a long time. Kind of Robert Armani shaking bassment style tracks. This goes on and on and really works the floor. Excellent track...probably more than excellent. The EP tops it off with a nice and dubby rhythm and sound kind of track. Brilliant EP for the 7s collective.

Review: Nice one for 7th Sign Records again!! Smooth Carl Finlow house tracks with a electro feel. Probably one of his most floor orientated releases in a while. Can be compared with his massive Il.ek.tro release on Klang but more straight forward. This even reminds us of the classic Other People Place release on Clone and Warp.

The Outsider
The Outsider (Conforce remix)
Review: Always a label known for unearthing some of techno's deeper producers, 7th Sign present the debut from Glasgow based producer Leeon, a producer with a flair for Detroit moods that evoke the productions of Rick Wilhite and Marcellus Pittman. "Birth of a Season" wraps sunset pads around restless strings, while "Miles and Miles" creates a piece of helium-light intergalactic soul that Space Dimension Controller would be proud of. "The Outsider" is the real killer though, as a twisting arpeggio rushes across deep Rhodes keys. Finally, Dutch techno don Conforce delivers his own take on "The Outsider", placing the melody firmly in the background, swathing it in delay and firming it all up with gritty 909 beats.

Review: Solab is the new project of these two guys from Glasgow (Ross McMillan and Graham Wilson). Having a long term love affair with Detroit techno and having a healthy music scene in Glasgow, you can expect some quality music. Three tracks of smooth classic techno influenced by Basic Channel and early Carl Craig works but all with some modern minimal flavour. Alex Smoke is here on remix duties and turns the main track ''Shift'' into a rolling minimal techno monster!
