Review: Mall Grab's Steel City Dance Discs bangs out a 29th volume of its self-titled series here and DJ Boneyard is the one who has been digging in his vaults to serve up six deathly techno slammers. 'Bonestyle' is all about the distorted low ends and sleazy broken beast which power it along under edgy synths. 'Flutter' is a crispy electro scuzz-fest with more ear-ticking low end fizz and brighter trance chords up top. 'Slap Slap Slap' is a percussive flurry, a tumble of drums and gritty warehouse noise while three more brilliantly tough and fucked up takes on techno feature on the flip side.

The Fine Line (Nite Fleit remix) (5:10)
Review: Steel City Dance Discs: the vinyl only label curated by Mall Grab and most likely named after his hometown town of Newcastle in New South Wales Australia. It has served up killer releases recently by the likes of Ghettohousedrummachine, DJ Astral and X-Coast. It's now the turn of Jun Kamoda of Mister Saturday Night and Kabukahrythm fame. The quirky neon-lit funk of "Flaming Flamingo" starts of the A side along with the dusty and hypnotic confusion of "Misty Funk" which would be perfect for playing at an after-hours. On the flip, the EPs most lively moment comes in the form of the uplifting "The Fine Line" reminiscent of early Derrick Carter's Sound Patrol project.

Saint Laurent (6:15)
Picanya 2400 (5:18)
Bosozoku (5:30)
Move Like Vibert (6:21)
Review: Evan Campbell has already delivered some killer club cuts under the Ketamma alias, including solo EPs on Shall Note Fade, G-Town and Homage, and a solid collaborative 12" alongside UK veteran Lone. He's in predictably fine form on this first Steel City Dance Discs outing too, first slamming down some DJ Duke style NYC 'power house' (heavy grooves, soulful vocal samples and addictive piano riffs) on 'Higher (Steel City Power House)', before brilliantly fusing techno and classic house sounds on 'Saint Laurent'. Elsewhere, 'Picanya 2400' is a bouncy, rushing peak-time techno treat, 'Bososoku' is a surging, riff-heavy stomper and 'Move Like Vibert' is a loving, wholehearted tribute to Luke Vibert's bonkers-but-brilliant Wagon Christ project.

Father (5:20)
Can't Take It No More (5:23)
Review: In the space of a year, Mall Grab has gone from being a promising newcomer, to one of house music's most hyped producers. While this 12" for new label Steel City Dance Discs is unlikely to be quite as successful as the ubiquitous "I've Always Liked Grime", it nevertheless still contains two fine workouts from the Melbourne man. Typically, "Father" is a woozy, soulful, loose and bumpin' chunk of hazy, saucer-eyed deep house loveliness whose chopped-up gospel vocal samples work perfectly with the chunky, low-slung groove. "Can't Take It No More" is a little jazzier and sprightlier, with filtered soul vocal samples and fuzzy horn lines riding a typically bouncy house groove.

Room Full Of Rothko (6:54)
Nonstop Feeling (6:12)
Ill (part 1) (6:13)
Ill (part 2) (5:16)
Review: Mall Grab is a master of big room house sounds that manage to fill vast warehouses but also come with enough detail as to make them more than merely mindless bangers. His latest once again treads that fine line between too much and not enough across four full flavour and characterful cuts. 'Room Full Of Rothko' is all frothing chords and brisling house beats that race along at silky speeds, then 'Nonstop Feeling' is heavier, with dark trance synths and a more forlorn vibe. 'Ill' comes in two parts - one banging and sweaty, with old school rave motifs and plenty of flashing stones and one, well, pretty much the same.

Ill (part 2) (5:16)
Review: Everyone's favourite house larrikin Mall Grab returns for the 20th edition of his esteemed Steel City Discs. The young Aussie serving up four killer tunes here, jam packed full of classic house tropes and euphoric positivity. Opening cut 'Room Full Of Rothko'' with its anthemic chord progression playing centre stage is sure to get those hands in the air when it gets played in the clubs. Peak time techno banger 'Nonstop Feeling' takes a darker turn, powered by its roaring Reese bassline and throwback trance motifs. The classic KMS sound seems to be a recurring theme here, as heard on B side cut 'III' existing in two epic parts.

Dvizhenie (5:20)
Body Journey (6:35)
Mindstab (6:15)
Neo-Plant (6:14)
Can't Stop (6:34)
Review: St Petersburg producer Maruwa crash landed onto dancefloors two years ago via an inspired EP on Lobster Theremin and an equally as robust and mind-altering missive on Mall Grab's Steel City Dance Discs imprint. Here she returns to the latter with more rugged, retro-futurist, rave-igniting treats. We're particularly enjoying pulsating opener 'Dvizhenzie', an acid-smothered fusion of turn-of-the-90s bleep techno and hot-stepping electro, and the unfeasibly dreamy, loved-up breakbeat wonder that is 'Neo-Plant'. Elsewhere, 'Body Journey' and 'Mindstab' offer slightly different takes on Maruwa's psychedelic techno blueprint (she's fast becoming a masterful producer of TB-303 driven insanity), while 'Can't Stop' is a thrillingly energetic fusion of sparkling synth riffs, heavy breaks and breathless bass.

Silk (5:06)
Lemon (4:39)
Drip (5:44)
Blue (4:15)
Cotton (7:13)
Review: Moktar brings something fresh to the dance floor here as he combines club and techno sounds with traditional Arabic instrumentation. It makes for high energy sounds that are brimming with intoxicating melody and relentless rhythms. All the tracks emphasis the artist's proud Egyptian-Australian heritage and embrace real complexity while still making for danceable beats. 'Lemon' is full flavour club track with booming bass and exotic wind instruments, 'Drip' sinks down into a deeper vibe with rolling snares and hits and 'Blue' is an old school breakbeat banger. Great stuff.

All New Low (4:54)
Pippa Arrives (4:48)
Little Monsters (4:34)
Review: London-based producer Nite Fleit has been busy over the past couple of years slinging out rough and ready club cuts with bags of personality on labels like Unknown To The Unknown and Planet Euphorique. Now she returns to Steel City Dance Discs, the Australian label that provided her first break back in 2018, with a new EP, with some rabble rousing rave busters that span styles, gleefully cherry picking the feistiest ingredients to make surefire bangers. "All New Low" is particularly fierce with its massive monosynth bassline grind and ear-snagging sample hooks. Elsewhere there's plenty of electro punishment waiting - don't sleep on B2 belter "Little Monsters" in that regard.

Psychic & Mental (4:36)
Scram (4:11)
Little Friend (4:31)
Partly Sunny (5:26)
Review: Although still little known in Europe, Nite Fleit is a headline attraction in her native Australia, where dancers flock to hear her driving and dystopian DJ sets. It's perhaps unsurprising, then, that fellow Aussie Mall Grab has signed her to his fast-rising Steel City Dance Discs imprint. This debut 12" is rather impressive, all told, with highlights including the ragged electro/acid/EBM fusion of opener "Psychic and Mental", the ludicrously bass-heavy, acid-electro rumble of "Little Friend" and the throbbing, acid-fired electronic psychedelia of triumphant EP closer "Partly Sunny". Those looking for something warmer and breezier should also check the breakbeat-driven dreaminess of "Scram".

Back (5:05)
Echo (7:44)
The Illusion (7:06)
Review: Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's Salary Boy, the Mall Grab protege who, like money, never sleeps. Here, the financially astute superhero finally gets his chance on his mentor's Steel City Dance Discs label following promising outings on Astropical and Shadow City. Opener "Back", a gloriously cheery, hot-stepping house cut built around chunky bass and carefully chosen disco and hip-hop samples, sounds like a theme tune to his financial misadventures, while fellow A-side cut "Echo" wraps sunny synth riffs and sunset electronics around a two-step influenced deep house groove. All superhero movies build to a breathtakingly positive conclusion, and our hero does, too, with B-side "The Illusion" peppering a bouncy, U.S garage style rhythm track with similarly funk bass, cut-up vocal samples and some seriously poignant piano lines.

Doolally (7:35)
Space Ghetto (6:33)
Drago The Destroyer (4:48)
Review: Croydon party starter Skream has pretty much done it all in his time. From being there at dubstep's ground zero, veering off into techno and then tech house, he is now proving himself adept at making blistering breakbeats. That is the order of the day on this new one from Steel City Dance Discs, which kicks off with the bleary-eyed rave sounds of 'Doolally.' 'Space Ghetto' is a piano banger with tons of old school signifiers and off-balance drums that cannot fail to make you stomp while 'Drago The Destroyer' might just be the best of the lot. It sounds like a dubstep tune gone wrong, with spraying bass, dusty breaks and ragged synths running wild.
