The Draft EP
Cat: SUARA 362. Rel: 31 Jul 19
  1. Pears Cosmic (5:53)
  2. 19 Caracteres (5:36)
  3. The Draft (Coyu remix) (6:08)
  4. 19 Caracteres (Flug Acid remix) (6:22)
Review: Gotshell is Cristian Alexander Soto: a DJ and producer from Colombia that has appeared previously on Mord, Detroit Underground and X/OZ. His new new thriller comes courtesy of the ever reliable Suara label - and he lunges straight for the jugular on this fierce new offering. Kicking off with the barrelling intensity of "Peras Cosmic" which reaches near acid moments,, this is followed by the hypnotic sonar pulse of "19 Caracteres" (which calls to mind the work of legend Sleeparchive) and on the flip we have label staple Coyu - who delivers a right punch with his remix of "The Draft" which is as steely and austere as you like it.

Arc Mode EP
Cat: SUARA 381. Rel: 22 Jan 20
  1. Arc Mode (5:46)
  2. Arc Mode (Mark Broom remix) (5:02)
  3. Redeemer (6:02)
  4. Astral Cell (6:02)
Review: British techno legend Kirk Degiorgio makes a surprise appearance for Spanish main room techno purveyors Suara here. The man behind seminal releases over the last 28 years as Elegy As One or Korrupt Data among others, and running the Applied Rhythmic Technology (ART) label, you can sure bet Degiorgio brings the goods when called upon - and the Arc Mode EP is no exception. The title track is a barrelling peak time thriller, leading you through the strobelights and smoke machine with its dense dub chords, hypnotic acid and steely rhythms. Fellow UK legend Mark Broom steps aboard for a remix which reduces the track down to its cyclical elements, much like his own acclaimed productions on the Beardyman imprint. On the flip, feel the power on the pummelling warehouse energy of "Redeemer" which captures that Sunday morning Berghain vibe perfectly, and closed out by the adrenalised and hypnotic sonar transmissions of "Astral Cell".

Heart Of Mine EP
Cat: SUARA 303. Rel: 11 Apr 18
  1. This (7:40)
  2. Hear Of Mine (7:43)
  3. This (Lewis Fautzi remix) (5:31)
Review: Charlotte De Witte has been threatening to break into the big time ever since her earliest releases on Tiga's Turbo label back in 2015. Following a prolific 2017 in which she released a string of acclaimed EPs, the Belgian producer makes her first appearance on Spanish imprint Suara. Check first the relentless, full throttle techno heaviness of A-side "This" - think foreboding voices, constantly building drum machine percussion and occasional creepy electronics - before turning your attention to the strangely beguiling "This Heart of Mine", where solo vocal snippets echo over another bombastic rhythm track. To round off a fine EP, Lewis Fautzi delivers an intoxicating rework of "This" that's in the same sonic ball park as Kowton's remix of Throwing Shade's "Chancer" on Happy Skull.

Cat: SUARA 393. Rel: 16 Jun 20
  1. Newoldgen (5:59)
  2. Descontrol (6:19)
  3. Altered States (6:08)
Review: There's no doubt that Suara is one of the most popular techno labels in the world at the moment, with boss man Ivan Ramos aka Coyu heading up the imprint out of his Barcelona headquarters - accompanied by a large clowder of felines. Ramos takes charge of proceedings for the third edition in its special vinyl edition series titled 'Post War Era', featuring the thumping and syncopated tribal funk of "Newoldgen" which calls to mind golden age classics by the likes of Oliver Ho and Ben Sims from wayback when. On the flip, you've got the futuristic peak time banger "Descontrol" which is something more familiar of his usual style, and finally the pummelling mentalist tunnel vision of "Altered State" which must be fully realised in a dark warehouse under the strobe lights.

Movement EP
Cat: SUARA 401. Rel: 15 Jul 20
  1. The Advent - "Witches Spell" (5:45)
  2. The Advent - "Live 98 Tour" (5:07)
  3. The Advent & Zein - "Same 4" (4:46)
Review: Coyu's Barcelona-based Suara label continues to push the thresholds of hard techno, with this new one by legend Cisco Ferreira under his reknowned The Advent moniker. Brace yourself for The Movement EP, featuring heavy duty sonic artillery that must be handled with extreme caution. From the brutalist dystopian slammer "Witches Spell" to the unrelenting peak time fury of "Live 98 Tour" which is reminiscent of timeless classics like "Bad Boy", to the Detroit style breakneck electro funk of "Same 4" which is a collaboration with his son Zein. Ferreira proves yet again that even after 30 years in the game, he is still miles ahead of the rest - respect!
