Review: Allison & The South Funk Boulevard Band's original album (first released on the Texas-based Crazy Cajun label) is mega rare and much sought after. If you find a copy it will be hella costly, but Superfly reissues it here so we can all delight in its glorious 70s soul richness. It is a broad and widescreen album that moves from quiet, slow, heartbroken soul sounds to more groovy numbers with funky and buttery vocals. The production is lo-fi and loveably raw, with plenty of these able to make you cry as much as make you dance.

Review: Stone cold classic double sider of sumptuous soul here from Superfly. Frankie 'Zhivago' Young fist offers the glorious 'Someone Stole Your Love' which has long been an A-grade- 45rpm with soul collectors who really know. The lo-fi production and muted chords convey real pain beneath the aching vocal. On the flip, 'I'm Yours' is another standout that has somehow never actually before been pressed on 7. It comes here with a top-notch picture sleeve. A real must-have for soul fans.

Review: Japan's Superfly smash it once again with this expert excavation of Carl Marshall's first album post Soul Dog. On point 1980 disco funk, two things are paramount: the insatiable groove and the powerful range... From high impact dance with pre Byron Stingily falsettos ("Come Dance With Me") to trembling ballads ("I'll Give My Heart To You", "Since I Met You") by way of the imperial groove fatness of "Funky Judge" and the cosmic "Static", this has aged impeccable well. From the heart.

Review: Legendary gospel funk record from 1982 on Tennessee label Champ: Andrew Wartts & The Gospel Singers created something magic here, and the hefty price tags for original pressings (even though they had an infamously poor cut) back it up. Anywhere you drop the needle you'll strike gold... The Hathaway-style spoken word on "Rich Man Poor Man", the hip-swinging walking blues bassline and swooning harmonies of "Can You Say Yeah?", the grainy organ blasts and rattling snare on "One Day In Paradise" and the overwhelming drive of "None Greater Than John", the whole album is a serious work of beauty and soul.
