Ubiquity
Ubiquity (12")
Cat: SWEATSV 017. Rel: 07 Apr 21
Disco/Reediciones
  1. Ubiquity (3:29)
  2. Ubiquity (The Magician remix) (4:19)
  3. Ubiquity (Eric Duncan remix) (8:11)
  4. Ubiquity (Lubelski remix) (6:02)
Review: 'Ubiquity' really is an all-star affair, at least by nu-disco standards. It started out as a revivalist, boogie-era disco groove crafted by Nicky Night Time, which was then tweaked and turned into a vocal number, before Breakbot added some killer string and horn arrangements. The results are spellbinding, all told, coming on like a future disco classic full of addictive vocals, colourful synths and authentic turn-of-the-80s instrumentation. The superb original mix comes with a trio of re-rubs: a loopy disco-house revision from The Magician, a more cosmic and spaced-out revision from Eric Duncan that recalls some of his work as Still Going, and a Metro Area-influenced re-wire courtesy of Lubelski.

Better Than This
Cat: SWEATSV 021. Rel: 26 Oct 21
Funky/Club House
  1. John Summit & Parachute Youth - "Better Than This" (5:44)
  2. Parachute Youth - "Can't Get Better Than This" (5:06)
Review: Indie house duo Parachute Youth released their 'Can't Get Better Than This' single back in 2012 and it went on to become a huge international hit. Now they have resisted it after pairing up with Chicago house vocalist John Summit. Renamed 'Better Than This' it becomes a spine-tingling vocal house cut with warm, shuffling drums and subtle synth work. Packed with blissful and youthful vibes and plenty of sun, it is an energetic rework that has a nice touch of nostalgia and a bassline that will lock in any crowd for days. As well as the easy to love new version, the still lush original version is also included on the flip.

Playbox (remixes)
Cat: SWEATSV 035. Rel: 02 Sep 22
Disco/Reediciones
  1. Playbox (Alex Virgo remix)
  2. Wanna Feel Like A Lover (feat Ed Mac - Poolside remix)
Review: The latest 12-inch from Tino Piontek under his now familiar Purple Disco Machine outing features two fresh remixes of tracks from his popular 2021 album Exotica. First up, Alex Virgo reworks 'Playboox', delivering a mid-to-late-'80s Hi-NRG and Euro-dance inspired take full of starry synth breakdowns, hard-wired sequenced bass, spiralling melodies and bustling beats. It's good, but arguably even better is yacht disco-loving outfit Poolside's languid Balearic disco revision of Ed Mac collaboration 'Wanna Feel Like a Lover'. It's warm, dreamy and luscious, with strings and soulful vocal snippets combining wonderfully with the band's bass and guitars - basically the sort of jam you want to hear as the sun goes down on a steaming hot day.

  11. Purple Disco Machine & Faithless - "Let The Music Play"
  12. Memphis Jam (feat Kool Keith)
  13. Encore (feat Baxter)
Review: Glossy disco beat maker and silky synth-smith Purple Disco Machine really leans on the OG pure one, Prince, for the opening track on his Soulmatic album. It's filled with electronic funk, twisted vocoder vocals and big licks that will work on a wide range of dance floors. Elsewhere his collab with Boris Dlugosch, 'Love For Days' is a dazzling vocal house anthem thanks to the seductive sounds of singer Karen Harding and 'Devil In Me' feat Joe Killington & Duane Harden is a cover like you have never heard before. This special Record Store Day reissue is limited in numbers and sure to fly off the shelves.

In The Dark (remixes)
Cat: SWEATSV 030. Rel: 05 Jul 22
Disco/Reediciones
  1. In The Dark (with Sophie & The Giants - club dub) (5:01)
  2. Can't Get Enough (feat Sahara Beck - Monte remix) (6:05)
Review: While some of his singles are arguably aimed at radio stations and streaming services, Purple Disco Machine never forgets the DJs. This 12" for example contains extended, club-focused reworks of two recent - and predictably popular - tracks. On side A he reworks Sophie & The Giants collaboration 'In The Dark' in a 'Club-Dub' style, cannily re-framing it as a pulsating, throbbing and echo-laden fusion of mid-80s Bobby Orlando Hi-NRG, ear-pleasing nu-disco, Chic and Moroder style electronic disco. Sahara Beck hook-up 'In The Back' is beefed up a bit on the flip, with Purple Disco Machine doffing a cap to Shep Pettibone's 1980s Pet Shop Boys remixes and Stuart Price style synth-house

At The Disko
Cat: SWEATSV 031. Rel: 19 Jul 22
Disco/Reediciones
  1. At The Disko (extended mix) (6:34)
  2. Don't Stop (extended mix) (6:28)
Review: When it comes to blurring the boundaries between Defected style accessible house and revivalist disco, Purple Disco Machine is arguably in a league of his own. The German producer has certainly ticked all the right boxes with his latest 12", which features two club-length extended versions of two excitable, festival-friendly workouts. A-side 'At The Disko' is a perfectly pitched chunk of bouncy nu-disco/house/p-funk fusion rich in vibrant synth sounds, spacey synth-strings, Nile Rodgers style guitar licks, energetic piano stabs and autotune-heavy vocals, while flipside 'Don't Stop' joins the dots between K.I.D's thrusting disco classic of the same name, the Munich Machine hedonism of Giorgio Moroder and breakdown-heavy classic house.

Dopamine (remixes)
Cat: SWEATSV 032. Rel: 02 Aug 22
Disco/Reediciones
  1. Dopamine (feat Eyelar - John Summit remix) (5:14)
  2. I Remember (club dub mix) (4:57)
Review: Purple Disco Machine's 'Dopamine' came out last year in a blissful burst of singalong vocal house goodness, with Eyelar up front on the mix creating a fully fledged anthem which was a deserved hit for the German producer. Now comes a remix 12" which casts 'Dopamine' under the watchful eye of John Summit, a young producer with serious pop nous to his beats. It's a shoe-in for big rooms and big stages where you want to enrapture the masses, and if the A side isn't enough you've also got the Daft Punk-tinged disco delights of 'I Remember (Club Dub Mix)' on the flip. Purple Disco Machine's name is a byword for catchy club classics in the making, and so it goes on this new 12".

Exotica
Exotica (12" + sticker)
Cat: SWEATSV 010. Rel: 24 Nov 20
Disco/Reediciones
  1. Exotica (6:25)
  2. Exotica (instrumental) (6:24)
Review: This one has been long delayed due to Purple Disco Machine's previous tune 'Hypnotised' blowing up the worldwide spot, but finally it sees the light of day and is only likely to further fuel the hype ardour the guy. 'Exotica' is a timeless disco cut with something for everyone - strident drum grooves, nice tropical percussion, well treated vocals and vocoders and cosmic synth explosions. The instrumental removes the call and response vocal but either one of these is destined for big things well into the New Year and beyond.

Fireworks
Cat: SWEATSV 018. Rel: 23 Feb 21
Disco/Reediciones
  1. Fireworks (3:22)
  2. Fireworks (instrumental) (3:23)
Review: Having fired out some seriously good hybrid nu-disco/house tracks last year, Tino Piontek AKA Purple Disco Machine begins 2021 in typically confident mood. This time round, he's joined by vocalist Moss Kena and New York based nu-disco duo The Knocks. 'Fireworks' is short and sweet, but cheerfully funky and positive - all synthesized steel pan sounds, choral chorus vocals, Olly Murs style lead vocals, Nile Rodgers guitars and disco grooves so chunky and addictive they might not leave your head for several weeks. The quality of Piontek's backing track can be explored further on the flipside instrumental, which is every bit as alluring as the vocal take and - in our opinion - is arguably even stronger.

  10. Two Clocks (3:50)
  11. Imaginary Air (6:51)
Review: Aussie alt-dance stars Rufus made a huge splash with this, their debut album, back in 2013. At the J Awards of 2013, the album was nominated for Australian Album of the Year, it also debuted at Number 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart and produced big singles like 'Sundream' and 'Take Me.' It's dance-y, festival ready pop music for the masses, but done with style and melody, such as on the glistening opener. 'Modest Life' with its summery flutes, heat melted pads and clean vocal style is another irresistible gem while 'Unforgiven' shows off another more late night sound.

Review: Australian trio Rufus Du Sol's sophomore album Bloom was a remarkable once way back in 2016. It debuted at number one on the ARIA Albums Chart and picked up a platinum certification in Aus in 2018. The album continued to build on the band's ascension with its easily accessible and upbeat sounds, filled with youthful energy and excitement for the weekend. It's a record that soundtracks chasing the endless fun of summer, with rock-and-roll roots plus indie and alternative tracks such as 'You Were Right' and 'Brighter' all standing out.

  3. Gorgeous (extended Disco version) (5:04)
  4. Gorgeous (Dombrance remix) (4:33)
  5. Gorgeous (Jack Burton remix) (4:18)
Review: There's much to admire about this EP of remixes of "Gorgeous", Yuksek's hook-up with Brisbane band Confidence Man that was one of the highlights of his ace "Notto Riso" album. Check first the producer's own "Extended Disco Version", which brilliantly extends the synth-sporting revivalist disco-boogie original, before listening to Mighty Mouse's bouncy, gently housed-up (but still disco-centric) EP-opening rework. Those looking for something darker and weightier will enjoy the dub disco-goes-lo-fi house flex of Chloe's rework, while the Dombrance and Jack Burton remixes that close the EP offer distinctly different electro-disco takes tailor-made for sweaty late-night dancefloors.
