Disco/Reediciones
  1. Peter Brown - "For Your Love" (Danny Krivit edit) (5:01)
  2. Jimmy McGriff - "Tailgunner" (Danny Krivit edit) (7:27)
Review: Veteran New York scalpel fiend Danny Krivit continues his series of TK Disco re-edits, this time touching up tracks by Peter Brown and Jimmy McGriff. Interestingly, the Brown cut he's chosen is not one of his biggest dancefloor hits - "Dance With Me", "You Should Do It" or "Baby Gets Me High", say - but rather a B-side slow jam. Krivit subtly extends short sections of the original to create a longer, groovier intro, before letting the smooth and sultry original track play through with only occasional modifications. The pace is upped considerably on the flip, as Krivit successfully extends Jimmy McGriff's brilliant 1978 instrumental disco jam "Tailgunner" - a feat largely achieved through subtle repetitions of the organist's wild and sweaty solos.

  1. T Connection - "Do What You Wanna Do" (Kon Keep It Movin mix) (8:09)
  2. T Connection - "Do What You Wanna Do" (Kons groove) (5:05)
  3. Jimmy McGriff - "Tailgunner" (Todd Terje edit) (6:51)
Review: Re-issue of the TK Disco classic from 1977 and it still sounds as awesome as ever. Particularly if when you get two dons of the current scene to edit it. On the A side Boston's Kon gets on board to give it two fine re-edits. The "Kon Keep It Movin' mix" clocks in at just over eight minutes and works the track main hooks for a lot longer on this cleverly executed an essential edit for any serious DJs box. "Kon's Groove" is a more condensed version of the previous and great modern revision of the track. On the flip we've got none other than Todd Terje, giving Jimmy McGriff's classic "Tailgunner" a tasty re-edit too. The classic from 1977 gets its epic Hammond Jazz organ solo extended over nearly seven minutes of glory!

Why Can't We Live Together

Disco/Reediciones
  1. Why Can't We Live Together (original) (4:39)
  2. Why Can't We Live Together (LNTG No More Work rework - Late Night Tuff Guy edit) (7:01)
Review: Last year, legendary disco label T.K released a pair of 12" singles featuring fresh Todd Terje reworks of classic material from K.C & The Sunshine Band. It was such a success that they've decided to repeat the exercise, recruiting Aussie rework specialist Late Night Tough Guy to breathe new life into Timmy Thomas' impassioned anti-war record and the recent subject of sped-up sampling by Drake, "Why Can't We Live Together". Typically, his version is built around a lolloping, disco-friendly house groove, onto which the original record's killer organs and vocals sit. It's tastefully done and hugely playable, of course, though some disco DJs will still prefer to reach for Thomas' impeccable original. Handily, T.K has included that heartfelt slice of soul brilliance on the A-side.

Cat: TKD 072. Rel: 17 Jul 17
Funk/Reediciones
  1. Africano (4:36)
  2. Funky Me (3:01)
  3. Why Can't We Live Together (4:34)
Review: The TK Disco reissue series continues with a fine EP of classic cuts from label stalwart Timmy Thomas. This time round, the singer and keyboardist's most famous outing, the fuzzy and impassioned organ jam "Why Can't We Live Together", is relegated to the B-side, with 1977 cut "Africano" taking pride of place on the A. It's something of an overlooked gem, all told; a killer chunk of Clav-happy Afro-funk/Afro-disco fusion full of chanted vocals and Thomas's own killer electric piano flourishes. Also featured on side B is "Funky Me", which was originally featured on the B-side of "Why Can't We Live Together". Equally fuzzy and underpinned by the same sort of clicking drum machine percussion, it naturally features Thomas showing off his impeccable organ skills.
