Repeat Itself (2:26)
Review: This cryptic debut from Belgian AIR LQD mixes up science fiction, social criticism and punk ethics into a futuristic sound world where urban decay and artificial intelligence have really taken hold. The brittle, icy electronics of these tracks reminds of Kassem Mosse's experimental lo-fi house work on Workshop. "Repeat Itself" is interspersed with dehumanised voices from a darkened dungeon and leads to some brilliantly unsettling sounds. Abrasive textures rub up next to looping echoes, crashing metal hits and rubbery bass. Though wholly unnatural, paranoid and occult, it all feels so damn right.

Remembrance Of Death
Contra Theatra
Review: Unknown Precept made one of the most memorable debuts of 2013 with The Black Ideal, an all too appropriately titled compilation that featured Semantica boss Svreca, Shifted, AnD, Ancient Methods and Violetshaped, and truly lived up to its billing as a release that sat "halfway between incisive primitivist rave-techno and cerebral experimentations". Notable by their absence since that compilation was issued, Unknown Precept return in triumphant fashion with the Unseen Warfare EP from newcomer Damaskin. Described by the label as their "first and beloved contributor involved in Unknown Precept's early actions", Damaskin's production debut is a bold statement that continues the approach of The Black Ideal and the four crumbling, decayed techno distortions will find fans with followers of Perc and Ancient Methods.

Anxiety Plae (3:06)
Mobility Effort (4:06)
Charity (6:28)
Pain PM (9:07)
Collector (7:24)
Review: Berlin label Unknown Precept once again live up to their name with this fourth release which offers a "a roaring and deafening debut" for Brooklyn noise artist Nick Klein. One of those US artists whose work has largely filtered through on the DIY tape scene, Klein's vinyl debut arrives in the shape of Failed Devotee which brandishes five cuts of slowed and throwed techno for the freakier selectors out there. Listening to "Anxiety Plae" brings to mind Charles Manier and that's a very favourable comparison, whilst there are faint echoes of Giallo in the tunnelling arpeggiated grit of "Mobility Effort". "Charity" is more explicitly industrial, with an underlying feeling of glam that suggests Klein has quite a devious sense of humour, whilst "Pain PM" could almost be an Actress cut.

Extremities (limited 12")
Cat: PRECEPT 005. Rel: 15 Jun 15

Techno
Good Humor (6:23)
It Was Me (5:40)
Let's Eat (Working Title) (5:00)
Every Little Rainbow (6:42)
Review: Berlin label Unknown Precept maintain their focus on the US noise scene, welcoming Philadelphia-based artist Profligate, real name Noah Anthony, into the fold with a record of slamming electronics called Extremities. Prior to making his way to Unknown Precept, Anthony's music has appeared on labels Gooiland Elektro and Not Not Fun Records, with last year's Finding The Floor LP released by the latter. Anthony is also a member of experimental noise trio Form a Log with Ren 'Container' Schofield as well as the long running Social Junk. Unknown Precept describe Extremities as "a clash between convulsive rhythms and spasmodic sounds, hammering and twisting the tempo throughout unforgiving techno grooves," which seems pretty accurate on the basis of the gripping soundclips!

Techno
Trade Union (5:38)
Et Caetera (3:59)
La Casa Moment (4:45)
Cold Onsen (5:33)
Nocturne (5:41)
Review: ??Introducing Paris-based contemporary sculptor and music maker Erwan Sene joining the exponential Unknown Precept roster. Gathering pieces thought of as little narratives for his debut release, not without a bit French irony around the concept of work, 'I Heard You Laughing' wavers towards mechanical repetition and something more outdated at times. Purposely slowing down the tempo to fit the apparent redundancy of an industrial environment and its steadily running engines. An eroded atmosphere of sorts, analogous to the smokestacks emanating from factory chimneys. Accentuating the ambiguity of a wild thought which is hard to grasp. Despite its machine-driven aspect, Sene primary questions the difficulty to manage one's life stuck in a primitive mindset, making intuitive associations in a grid pattern. Carbon copy music for the tangled minds out there, leaving room for nothing but sedated feelings.

The Black Ideal

The Black Ideal (gatefold 2xLP)
Cat: PRECEPT 001. Rel: 21 Jun 13

Techno
Ancient Methods - "Guardians Of An Eternal Bliss"
Saaad - "Last Love" (with Mondkopf)
Polar Inertia - "Antimatter"
Shifted - "Untitled"
Casual Violence - "Beauty Mode"
And - "Reinforcement G"
Svreca - "Linear"
Violetshaped - "Black Wisdom, White Witch"
Review: Parisian publishers Unknown Precept mark their impressive first steps into the realm of vinyl with a compilation of crepuscular techno rather aptly called The Black. This eight track release is handsomely presented in a thick black gatefold sleeve housing new material from a dark body of both well established and emerging techno acts and forms an intriguing bond with the debut issue of The Monograph, a new magazine dedicated to electronic music. Ancient Methods and Shifted strip their productions of beats, opting instead for overdriven sound design, while Violetshaped, Svreca, and hard hitting Manchester duo AnD push their drums and compressors to the limit. The emerging Casual Violence blend strings with a cluster of horrific ambient-noise, while last year's prolific ambient and drone pairing Saaad team up with fellow Frenchman Mondkopf for the cavernous "Last Love". Parisian producer Polar Inertia weighs in with the rest of the French contingent on the slow-burning "Antimatter".
