Review: It's refreshing to hear Faris Badawan and co. return to form with their appropriately titled fifth album. 'V' is supercharged with electronic fuzz and an anthemic rock swagger that has expanded The Horrors' sound to euphoric arena level. However, there are moments where they show signs of playing with the dark and disturbed writing that brought them fame a decade ago. This balancing act coupled with the band's reliance on electronics works in their favour, the end product being an exciting album by a band who sound bigger and bolder than ever.

Review: According to news stories when this EP was first announced, The Horrors' own frontman Faris Badwan describes the band's new song, 'Against the Blade', as a "further descent into chaos". A track about giving up hope, abandoning control, and coming to terms with the eternal human position of facing off against the world, rather than actually being part of it.
Listening to the tune now it's easy to buy into that description. The band have always had an uncanny ability to terrify and enthral, and this is a prime example of that. Opening with a searing refrain-cum-wasp-in-jar-noise, we soon explode into a monster metal riff with solid funk undertow, making for a tune that's destined to be a live favourite. Over the other side, 'Twisted Skin' sticks with the industrial-leaning feel.

Review: Devon-birthed, London-based vocalist Lowe is a specialist in a markedly sultry and soulful brand of modern R&B, whose smoothness of production and delivery belies a richly resonant emotional core. Indeed, whilst certainly there's no shortage of suitably icy style to be had here, what's most striking about 'Control' is the way in which Lowe both transcends the modern vogue for post-Drake/Weeknd soul-searching and crafts a new sound all her own. All those suitably enchanted by the like of FKA Twigs, Banks and James Blake will find much to love in these alluring and nocturnal soundscapes and sharp confessionals.
