  1. The Lake (6:06)
  2. The Lake (Ambient reprise) (5:26)
  3. Twilight (8:09)
Review: Michigan producer John Beltran is a master of atmosphere and emotion. His ambient has been used for countless seminal TV shows, he's been cited as an inspiration to Four Tet and has put out key albums on labels like Delsin and Peacefrog. Here he is in a distinctively club-focussed mood, but the synths still very much speak to your heart. "The Lake" is pure Motor City techno soul, and the ambient reprise allows you to wallow in his pads even more. "Twilight" then bustles with shimmering metal hits while pixelated keys drift about like a million fire flies in a warm night sky. Lush.

Review: Kris Baha has been on a serious roll over the past few years, notching up releases on Bahnsteig 23, Pinkman and many more besides. Now feels like the right time for him to drop an album, and where better to do such a thing than Cocktail D'Amore? The Berlin-via-Melbourne producer's sound comes through loud and clear - minimal wave and industrial influences abound, executed with ferocity and flamboyance in equal measure to create a many-shaded set of deviant dance bangers. "Living Nothingness" is the ultimate nihilistic beatdown, "Steel Sands" channels early Nine Inch Nails to perfection, and "Defied" has a propulsive thrust that would make Al Jourgensen proud. Baha wears his influences on his sleeve, and why not? They're great influences that he creates stunning music with.

  12. Spacial Patterns (5:41)
Review: Inspired by the ongoing climate emergency and our goverments' so far less than enthusiastic efforts to tackle it, Pessimist and Loop Faction's first collaborative album as Boreal Massif is as weary, frustrated and melancholic as you'd expect. Yet it's hugely entertaining, too: a constantly shifting affair in which hazy ambient tracks and crackling, field recordings-flecked soundscapes rub shoulders with post-dubstep cuts that sound like this decade's take on trip-hop. There are nods towards IDM, too, though the overall sound is far warmer and fuzzier, as if someone had sat Burial, Portishead, Massive Attack and Alpha down in a room and told them to get busy.

  8. Swing (2:49)
Review: Self-styled "minimal synth duo" Boy Harsher has released some fine music over the last few years, though little quite as on-point and majestic as 2018's "Country Girl" EP. Here they offer up a new-look "uncut" edition of the stylish set, which expands the original four-track set via a quartet of previously unreleased recordings from the same period. You'll find the original EP - complete with the throbbing but picturesque "Motion" and dreamy "Country Girl" - on side A, with the bonus material on the flip. Of these, we're particularly enjoying the gentle pulse of "Underwater", and the "Please" era Pet Shop Boys flex of "Send Me A Vision" and "Westerners".

  5. Not A Priority (Kincaid remix) (6:10)
  6. I Smashed Your Phone (Kincaid Wolfish remix) (5:22)
Review: This is a second release from the familia collaborative duo of Kincaid and his dad Blancmange. Their first EP made a big mark when it landed on Moscoman's Disco Halal imprint and now they back it up with more sludgy electronics, deconstructed dark disco and coldwave synth styles. "Late For Sum" opens in mysterious, spacious fashion before a Kincaid version reworks it into something more propulsive for the club. The darkened mood and trippy synths continue on "What's The Time?" while the b side offers exotic Middle Eastern disco, cosmic melodies and stark electro-techno with real panache.
