Orgonite (Riding the Waves) does just that, a slow build awash in the ebb and flow of acid tinges, just enough to wet your whistle on a Saturday night. The original mix keeps the skeletal support but throws in a life preserver of 8 bit gaming synthesis. Frisky arps call and respond to each other before making way for sinewy pads to lift off. Tiger's Eye sets itself onto cruising speed incorporating elements of late 90's acid techno with the sleek and smooth clubbing aesthetics of modern day Berlin.

Review: Gerd Jansen's Running Back is brilliantly and effortlessly eclectic. It's a label that does easy to love house anthems as well as more experimental fair and plenty in between. And that's where Ede & Deckert sit - in a world to the left of centre with catchy synth tunes feat. Sargland. 'Immer' is their latest and pairs doleful guitar riffs a la Joy Division with soul vocals and slick drums that will work in the right dance floor setting. It's a great sound and one that has the potential to become something of an unlikely underground dance hit. The B-side has an instrumental that allows the synth work to shine more.

Review: Sanderson Dear's Stasis Recordings released the original Time Capsule compilation in 2020 - a 20-track exploration of ten different ambient techno artists exploring two ideas each in compact form for a box set of 7"s. Now the label has revisited some of the project's standout moments and offered a chance to enjoy extended versions gathered on a single 12". From Maps Of Hyperspace shaping out atmospheric halls of synth work on 'Beta' to Glo Phase offering some gorgeous, sparkling grooves on 'Fire Flies', there's plenty of ground covered on this release. Of course the mighty John Beltran is a big drawer too, and his typically stellar 'The Descendent' doesn't disappoint in its full extended version.

An outlet for his less dancefloory material, this stint is more inspired by the artist's background in noise and metal, and the EP consists of two long tracks that were developed from live performances, exploring themes of dystopia, apocalypse and survival. Cursed anti-ambient music arises from the depths of Tartarus, drawing on tropes from neoclassical music to trance. There's also contributions on strings by Kathy Alberci.

Review: Dino Sabatini returns to his own Outis Music label with another mesmerising selection of deep electronic sounds that seem to take plenty of influences from dub, downtempo, ambient and trip hop. The open has a creeping melodic sequence that is forever subtly shifting and brings a sense of eeriness to the smooth and unhurried dub rhythms below. 'Inenarrabilis' is then a double quick flurry of tiny synth loops and trippy effects then 'Plena Lunae' allows you to breathe once more and sink into a vast dub soundscape. 'Ego Experior' shuts down with some paranoid baselines bubbling up through a slowly churning groove. Some quality work here for sure.

Review: The state51 Conspiracy label comes very much correct early on in the New Year with this two-track grey marbled vinyl 12" in a fancy spot-varnished sleeve. It takes the form of two fresh Santaka reworks of original compositions by Rytis Mazulis and avant-garde choir Melos Collective which were first released back in 2020. Santaka, which means "confluence" in Lithuanian, is the coming together of DJ and producer Manfredas and drummer and producer Marijus Aleksa and here they layer up disembodied vocals and dark jazz melodies on 'Ramybe' and then 'Autoportretas' is a textural ambient exploration packed with fascinating sound designs.

Review: Sawf doesn't strike us as the type of producer who suffers fools gladly. Or indeed at all. The Greek music maker has a reputation for uncompromising and unforgiving electronic beats at the harsher end of the spectrum, one foot in industrial and another in techno, but with enough respect for both genres to make sure he's never made anything that feels as though it's destined for a TikTok video of 5,000 people pretending to find groove in sledgehammers. Kafas is exemplary of this, four tracks that sound as though the machines are rising up but in a way that's infinitely danceable, even if you don't normally gravitate towards dark, single strobe-lit rooms. From 'Bordo''s stepping, broken, minimalist workout, through to the stomp, clang, march and whips of 'Tsirita', this is heavy, heavy stuff but also very good indeed.

Review: Scanone is a producer who has proven his versatility and so it's no wonder he's been tapped up for some killer tunes by the Reposition label. This blistering electro EP features three originals that mix up industrial textures with caustic drums and star-gazing synth work. 'Vivre' is an eye-watering opener with sheet metal sounds and frosty pads, 'Kraft' is then a slower more pensive electro soundscape and 'Vertabre' has a truly brutal groove that will rattle the walls of any club space, as well as dislodge brain cells. Sync 24 rounds things out with a remix of the same cut that becomes a sonic blizzard.

Review: Dirty Harry is one of the greatest Western characters of all time and the main title theme from the movie is just as brilliant. Here it gets pressed up to a fiery and funky 7" that follows on from one on this same label back in summer which offered up 'Scorpio's View' on 45rpm. This one opens with the eponymous theme which is a funky and thrilling chase with superb rhythms and lush strings and then the flip is 'Magnum Force' (main Title) which is more subtle and slow burning but just as dramatic.

Review: Schiksal is a project from Rudi Huybrechts, a small-town Belgium resident who devoted the 80s to learning his craft as an electronic dance music producer. He got his break in 1988 when Marc Grouls played his track '24 Hours' at Antwerp nightspot Prestige, and thus this record came to be. It's absolutely of the new beat era, but has a certain unconventional flair which often comes with those from more provincial backgrounds. Mecanica have gathered together the source material and commissioned some fresh remixes to round out this essential package for any lovers of The Sound Of Belgium.

Review: Lempuyang makes it to release number 15 with a devastatingly deep new EP from Deepchord Records co-founder Mike Schommer. He kicks off with 'Scapegoat' featuring the alluring vocals of Milly James which echo out over super slow-motion dub rhythms and icy pads. The Pole rework brings more crisp hits and distant eerie drones over a more pronounced rhythm but one that remains devilishly sparse. On the flip, 'Deceivers' has more hypotonic drive - a fleshy dub stepper to lock in any 'floor and then 'Believers' slows it down to a crawl once more. An essential dub EP that promises no represses.

'Tema De Los Adolesentes' kicks off on the flip with brilliantly lively samba keys and blasts of big horn energy next to more slinky and seductive lines. Review: Matt Sewell is a number of things - author, artist, illustrator and curator of killer compilations - but until now 'Balearic producer' was not one of them. Sewell & The Gong is his new sunset-ready project, created in collaboration with fellow producer and multi-instrumentalist Chris Tate. The pair's debut EP is full of slow-burn, sun-kissed treats, with Sewell's acoustic guitar sounds providing a focal point throughout. They set the tone with gorgeous, pastoral-sounding opener 'Tonight We Fly' - a folksy, sun-soaked treat - before tiptoeing towards Balearic dancefloors with the throbbing and summery 'Passing oort Clouds'. 'The Stars In The Sky & The Stones In The Earth' is like a more acoustic take on Seahawks, while 'Better Words' is a hypnotic, slo-mo chugger.

Review: Miss Nixon and Jacqueline Fuijkschot originally got together for some jam sessions in a sweaty attic circa 2015, and wound up with a track called 'Run' which ended up on a 7" for Das Ding's Tear Apart Tapes. Since then, Hivern Discs have picked up on the track and brought it out of limited-run obscurity to give it a full 12" pressing with some expertly selected cover versions. The original is a threadbare slice of melancholic minimal wave, but Cucina Povera thickens the sound into a brooding slice of ethereal dream pop. Celine Gillain's version is poised and raw, in keeping with her own excellent Mind Is Mud LP. Dania completes the picture with a straining, yearning ambient abstraction of the original.

Review: After a smattering of release in the latter stages of the last decade, David Koch revives his Shokh alias for this engrossing 12" on the ever-trusty brokntoys. The label is a natural home for Koch's scuffed and evocative strain of electronica, where the crunch of lo-fi electro serves as a vessel for strung-out synthesis that couldn't care less about the dancefloor. There's space for stripped down beat tracks, as on the mechanised 'Front Two' and purring 'Kolovento', but this is machine music as a mode of expression for your darkest dystopian fantasies. Review: Sindh combines old and new worlds on his latest mystic hymns, this time kicking off the A-Biotic label with his dark and alluring four-track EP 'Andaman'. He manages to fuse organic and synthetic materials here as he heads down a darkly introspective path where minimal and IDM, dub and techno all collide in mutant form. 'Jangil' is a real standout with its bubbling halftime rhythms and icy synths backed by distant angelic chorals. The bewitching sounds continue on 'Galathea' which rides back and forth on its heels as subtle sines, scurrying synths and menacing pads all interlock before 'Hinam' locks you in a dense synth stasis and loopy sense of lurching rhythm.

Review: The JalapeNo label sure does like it hot and this one is no different. It sees the return of label regulars Skeewiff for a new series of outings that take the form of reworked covers of some of their favourite library tracks, inspired by greats of the genre such as Keith Mansfield, Brian Bennett, and Alan Hawkshaw. First up is 'Exclusive Blend,' a rather classic instrumental composition by Mansfield. 'Spanish Flea' is on the flip and is a version of a very famous work by Herb Alpert and his Tijuana Brass Band. Review: SOLO 500 is back on their own self-titled label with the third entry in Galaxy Sound Company's series and again it digs deep into jazz-funk to turn out some killer breaks. Up first is the main theme from 1974's subway hijack movie The Taking Of The Pelham One Two Three and it is one with a funky, jazzy, high-octane sound that has been sampled by Company Flow, Mix Master Mike and many more. On the backside is an edit of a tune from Manfred Mann Chapter Three's self-titled 1969 LP. This one has been famously sampled by The Prodigy. Another great little 7".

Review: To call Invito Al Cielo an experimental album kind of undersells just how experimental it is. It also suggests, to the uninitiated, that there's an album here in some shape or form. Of course, the definition of an album is open to some debate - does it need to have a certain number of songs on there? Or is it more about overall run time? Here we have two tracks running upwards of 20minutes (one touching on 30) and a bridge movement at a still-pretty-long six minutes, so take from that what you will. What's really important, though, is the contents. Sonic Youth had already established themselves among the loudest in rock 'n' roll, but also the most adventurous and explorative musically speaking. This outing marked the third in a series of releases on their own SYR imprint, a platform used to push the envelope even further. Masters at noise and walls of sound, much of what's here is proof of just how far you can take drone and refrain with subtle differentiations.
