  2. Marina Verdi - "Shamanwoman" (4:19)
  3. Barac - "Who Says Imagniation Isn't Reality?" (8:37)
Review: Since launching last year, Barac's Shamandrum label has become a must-check for those who like their club cuts to be psychedelic or mind-altering. He kicks off the imprint's fourth EP by reconstructing Marina Verdi's mesmerising, beat-free vocal cut "Shamanwoman" (track two), brilliantly re-imagining the track as a slowly-building chunk of hallucinatory tech-house laden with wiggly acid bass, hypnotic drums and pulsing electronic motifs. As he has done on all of the label's previous releases, Barac provides an original production of his own on the flip. "Who Says Imagination Isn't Reality" is nominally tech-house, though the track's locked-in electronic rhythm, creepy synthesizer melodies and bubbly acid lines are a world away from bog-standard peak-time "tech". In a word: impressive.

Dots & Pearls 4
  1. Christian Burkhardt - "Karambolage" (7:15)
  2. Argy - "How Late It Was, How Late" (5:05)
  3. Markus Fix - "Baroon" (7:19)
  4. Jimi Jules - "Euphrasia" (8:15)
Review: This fine EP gathers together four previously unreleased exclusives from the latest edition of Cocoon's Dots & Pearls series, which was mixed by Markus Fix. His contribution to the EP, "Baroon" - a kind of contemporary re-imagining of the original 1988 version of The KLF's "What Time Is Love" with extra TB303 acid lines - is undoubtedly one of the highlights, alongside the ethereal melodies and early morning fuzz of Argy's intoxicating "How Late It Was, How Late". Elsewhere, Christian Burkhardt peppers a rolling house groove with boisterous but blissful stabs on "Karambolage", and Jimi Jules serves up a loose and languid take on the foreboding, stretched-out Innervisions tech-house sound ("Euphrasia").

  2. Niko Maxen - "Homecoming" (5:47)
  3. Sakro - "How Did I Get Here" (8:13)
  4. Moett C, Miguelito - "Derriere" (6:12)
Review: Since launching last year, Mexcian label Honne Music has so far offered up two multi-artist EPs packed with tidy tech-house and atmospheric minimal techno. The imprint's third outing explores similar sonic territory, showcasing tracks from a mixture of local and international artists. Old hand Lee Burton kicks things off via the intoxicating shuffle of "MAO" - all swirling sci-fi chords, minor key melodies and bubbly bass - before Niko Maxen delivers a fuzzier, slightly weirder take on intergalactic tech-house ("Homecoming"). Over on side B, Sarko emphasizes mind-mangling bass on the trippy tech-funk of "How Did I Get Here", while Moett C and Migueleto invite us to drift through deep space on the weightless, early morning warmth of EP highlight "Derriere".

Yellow EP (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: LYC 001. Rel: 29 Jan 18
  1. Riciar Ghir - "Cargo" (6:19)
  2. MINIMALAFRIKA - "Drakma Queen" (5:25)
  3. Robotalco - "No More Disco" (4:51)
  4. Klubbhuset - "SS0817" (6:11)
Review: The high grade, leftfield approach to house music Lyssna have set out as their MO continues in fine style on this new Colours series, starting with the Yellow EP and a strong cast of characters from the outer reaches. Riciar Ghir opens up proceedings with the tumbling deep house of "Cargo", making the keys dance with distinction and injection a subby rumble where it counts. Minimal Afrika follow that up with a percussive tryst entitled "Drakma Queen" that blossoms into a sumptuous ambient excursion. Robotalco takes a very different approach with some classically pumping sample-powered house music to shake feel-good fists to, and then Klubbhuset finishes up with an impassioned romp through peak time disco licks for the peak of the night.

Muck EP
Muck EP (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: MGM 06. Rel: 21 Oct 19
  1. Alpha Decay
  2. Tachyon
  3. Muck
  4. Stocha
Review: The sixth installment on Malin Genie's self-titled label welcomes Will & Ink resident Yaleesa Hall into the fold. Regular collaborators Malin and Yaleesa have turned out plenty of joint 12"s in the past on Will & Ink and this very label, and they sound more comfortable and sonically aligned than ever on this mighty record. There's no messing with "Alpha Decay," a loose and lysergic dubby techno workout. "Tachyon" orbits a similar soundworld, but shears the fat away for a minimal palette that sounds powerful echoing around the ample space in the mix. "Muck" slips into freaky after hours house territory, and "Stocha" drops a massive Basic Channel dub techno chord around a whisper of a beat to devastating effect.

  6. Bilal - "Electric Cafe" (6:09)
  7. Unai Trotti - "Delta Papa" (7:12)
  8. Voigtmann - "Infinity" (5:51)
Review: The Drifted Flow label made an early move in 2015 with a release from Tommy Vicari Jnr, but now returns with an entirely different premise - an eight-track double pack of fresh, invigorating minimal house jams from lesser-known and adventurous producers. Henry Hyde gets the collection off to a strong start with the wobbly funk of "Perchin," all dirty bass wobble and loose swinging rhythms. Elsewhere Martinez flirts with the crooked thump of electro, Alicia Hush wriggles through an abstraction of garage and Bilal channels a little of the Boogizm magic you might expect from S-Max or Fym. Overall, it's a release loaded with personality and flair for minimal spinners wanting some spicier ingredients for their mix.

Gleech Huis
Gleech Huis (hand-stamped 12")
Cat: SYLPHE 10. Rel: 25 Jun 19
  1. Holdie Gawn - "Gleech Huis" (11:56)
  2. Micawber - "Parsec Telemetry" (9:20)
Review: London-based, Greek minimal tech house aficionados Holdie Gawn & Micawber return to present the tenth edition on their beloved Sylphe imprint. It's a limited edition affair as per usual, so don't sleep on this one. On the A side, Gawn (aka Kreon) serves up the tripped-out early morning reductions of "Gleech Huis"- the sort of oddball groove you could imagine the likes of Rhadoo playing at an ungodly hour of the morning. On the flip, it's over to Micawber, who is otherwise known as Alex Celler - so you know you're in for a treat courtesy of this true master of the art. His boompty minimal funk jam "Parsec Telemetry" is much more upbeat and less abstract than his usual work, and channels the early vibe of classic Daniel Bell.

The Town
The Town (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: BNB 003. Rel: 28 Jan 19
  1. The Town (6:40)
  2. Chrome Moon (5:58)
Review: REPRESS ALERT: After launching Brush & Broom with two solo releases, maverick German producer Kalbata keeps his followers guessing yet again with this collaborative release with the equally unpredictable Maayan Nidam. "The Town" is a surefire party starter made up of catchy bleep lines, quivering rhythmic flashes and lots of shimmering FX sends that suggest this was a live jam from two talented producers locked in the groove. "Chrome Moon" takes a deeper, more meditative approach without losing those heavy echo chamber washes, where the spring reverb and buckwild delay feedback rein supreme. Wonderful, free-tripping results from an unexpected meeting of minds.

  4. Bucurie & Dot13 - "One Step Ahead" (7:42)
Review: For its label's fifth edition, Swiss imprint Sanguine serves up an impressive various artist EP, featuring some of the minimal techno scene's rising talents. Sanguina 005 includes Ukranian wunderkind KiRiK who dives deep into the exotic on the mood music of 'Boat For Us', arcane Rominimal delights are surely catered for on the introspective drama of 'Angry Patterns' by Macarie, and coincidentally on the B side, label boss Michel Degen offers up his musical opinion on 'I'm Not Romanian But'. This is wrapped up by another leading light of the Transylvanian scene in the form of Bucirie (with Dot 13) who gets rather hypnotic on the rolling breaks of 'One Step Ahead'.

Review: Following a strong cast including Myles Serge, John Barera, DJ Skull and Hakim Murphy, Mentha continues its strong run of form with a various artists 12" that broadens the horizons of the high-grade deep house label. Michael Lovatt keeps things groovy and understated on "Tides", while Kareen Ali gets into a slow and trippy mood on "Arnaldo Tamayo Mendez". Anaxander's "Unspoken" brings some neo-soul synth lines to the table, and Michael Zucker turns out a brooding, introspective workout. Each track may have its own traits, but the whole record hangs together as a fine next step for a promising label.
