Giralda Summer Edits (hand-stamped 12")
Cat: OGEWHITE 006. Rel: 30 Oct 20
  1. Track 1 (6:29)
  2. Track 2 (7:04)
  3. Track 3 (7:04)
  4. Track 4 (6:47)
Review: OGE White is pretty much already a buy on site label for those who like their minimal classy and deep. This is their fifth EP in 12 months and after the slippery and seductive open comes a celebratory tune that teases until it pleases when a big vocal bursts out of the perfectly reduced bass and synths. Track 3 is another perfect pairing of expertly designed minimal grooves and a choice vocal sample that brings the soul. That fine trick is reputed again on the final cut, which has a recognisable melody line all chopped up and reworks to fry your brain.

Plenti
Plenti (12")
Cat: 8BIT 161. Rel: 28 Oct 20
  1. Plenti (7:19)
  2. Squib (7:01)
Review: It's a big week for Mannheim's 8 bit label, with a massive release from Amsterdam tech house hero Franky Rizardo and now this one - coming from label co-head Nick Curly. Prepare to be seduced by the sensual, slinky and downright hypnotic acid groove of 'Plenti' followed up on the flip by the sweltering tribal polyrhythms of 'Squib' which is sure to work up a sweat on the dancefloor - as once the clubs reopen of course! This also happens to be his first release on the label for 2020, and obviously it made sense to give him some more time as these two tracks are sure floorfillers - only waiting for the right moment to be dropped in public.

  2. Helling (6:38)
  3. Funkaholic (Dan Ghenacia remix) (7:02)
  4. Helling (Julian Anthony remix) (5:52)
Review: At PIV Records, the imprint's founders are using their Dutch/Indonesian heritage as a cultural aspect to create a unique blended output, which is significantly visible in the artworks and merchandise of the label. The latest release as part of their limited vinyl series comes from rising Utrecht-based young gun Joren Edwards, who is hot off his debut release not long ago on Archie Hamilton's Moss Co. PIV 005 features some swing-fuelled hypnotic tech house jams such as 'Funkaholic' reminiscent of (iO) Mulen or Jack Wickham. It also receives a deep, dark and dirty rework on the flip by legend of the Parisian underground Dan Ghenacia. Alternatively, if you are looking for some quirked out microhouse, check out 'Helling' which is perfect for getting weird at the afterhours.

  4. Terminus (Retptant's Lizard Tech mix) (4:50)
  5. Noxi (DBR remix) (5:14)
Review: Pure Space Recordings hits a fantastic fourth release with IOTA at the buttons. This Detroit artist brings plenty of Motor City sound to his sounds, which fuse electro, techno and breaks into cosmic new forms. 'Terminus' is a tight and bumpy opener to get your shaking those bones loose and 'Cloudtek' then sinks into a chunky tech house groove reminiscent of the early 90s UK scene. There are also more empty and spaced out minimal cuts like 'Noxi' and two superb remixes that bring icy grooves and funky broken beats.

  5. Don't Blame A Mirror For Your Ugly Mug (7:46)

  7. Fisherman Sees Another Fisherman From A Distance (7:29)
Review: With all the unfortunate hassles that label boss Denis Kaznacheev is enduring of late, we're happy to see that he is still getting on with the job of running Nervmusic. Its next release comes from St Petersburg's tech house hero Andrew Guyvoronsky aka Tripmastaz, and it's also the accomplished producer's debut full-length. Andrewsheeny Skazkif features all the functional and swing-fuelled flavour that you've come to know and love from the Plant 74 chief: from the hypnotic and ethereal bounce of 'No Grind - No Fish To Find', or the trippy Sunday morning microhouse of 'Ditch A Broad Of A Wain, Minimise A Horse's Pain', through to the slick boompty business of 'Even Vinegar Tastes Sweet If It's Free' and the evocative deep house groove of "Fisherman Sees Another Fisherman From A Distance".

ENDZ 040
ENDZ 040 (coloured vinyl 12")
Cat: ENDZ 040. Rel: 27 Oct 20
  1. Whisper (7:09)
  2. Freak (7:08)
  3. Faze (7:08)
Review: He might not be able to play his trademark brand of swinging, UK-centric tech-house tunes to the public in clubs right now, but East End Dubz continues to serve up singles packed full of dancefloor-ready treats. His latest missive is predictably strong, particularly A-side 'Whisper'. An impressively atmospheric affair, the cut features lo-fi sounding electronic melodies rising above a chunky, hypnotizing bassline and his usual crispy, snare-heavy tech-house drums. The fun continues on the flip where 'Freak', a squelchy, acid-flecked mid-set bumper built around a limited number of teased and tweaked elements, is joined by 'Faze', which sounds like the sort of thing Sheffield sorts Swag released in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

CD (limited 12")
Cat: MSDS 001. Rel: 27 Oct 20
  1. CD (12:18)
  2. Dir (8:59)
Review: The word on the street is that this rather good two-tracker, credited to debutant MS-DOS, is in fact the work of a well-known Italian producer. Whether or not that's the case remains to be seen, but whoever is behind it, we'd urge you to check the clips. A-side 'CD' is a deliciously wayward, off-kilter affair where talking drums, pots-and-pans percussion, tipsy trumpet solos and meandering vibraphone lines stretch out over a loose-limbed, Villalobos-like rhythm track and mind-mangling bassline. The minimal-meets-jazz flex continues on flipside number 'Dir', a heavier and more forthright chunk of early morning minimalism laden with creepy noises, exotic clarinet sounds and South American style drums.

Wrong System EP

  1. Timepiece (7:23)
  2. Wrong System (6:03)
  3. Tom Cat (6:24)
  4. Tom Cat (Spacetravel remix) (8:07)
Review: To deliver their third release since debuting in 2018, from the less-than-prolific DXL Records has recruited Pressure Point, a producer who received plenty of praise for his earlier singles on Sol Asylum, Telharmonic Texture and All On Tape. The Wrong System EP is a quietly impressive return to form, with the little-known producer smoothly moving between intergalactic tech-house funk (the leaping, sci-fi sounds, shuffling drums and bubbly melodies of 'Timepiece'), mind-altering tech-house box jams (see 'Wrong Systems', with its chiming lead lines and hypnotic vibe), and tech-tinged deep house goodness ('Tom Cat'). The accompanying 'Spacetravel Mix' of 'Tom Cat' is also rather good, in part because it features what sounds like a broken modem having a meltdown over bustling machine drums, foreboding bass and soft-touch chords.

  1. Aquarela (7:13)
  2. Sabor Brasil (5:52)
  3. BOTSA (6:32)
Review: Astonishingly, well over a decade has passed since the last credited single from Barbara Goes, and that - like much of her early work - was a collaboration with fellow producer (and life partner) John Thomas. This, then, is a significant next step in her career: a debut solo single that showcases her impressive studio skills. A-side 'Aquarela' is a deliciously funky slab of locked-in late night tech-house in which the Brazilian artist adds her own Portuguese vocals, fizzing electronics and alien-sounding synth flourishes to a jazzy-but-hypnotic groove. It's impressive, as is 'Sabor Brasil', a carnival-ready chunk of disco and jazz-funk influenced deep house warmth, and the drowsy, early morning deep-tech flavours of 'BOTSA'.

  2. The Red Face Roller (6:53)
  3. Start Again (5:46)
  4. Leg Le Friend (8:19)
Review: Henry Hyde is back on his usual stomping ground of NorthSouth with some peppy club workouts to get wiggy to. "Locked Out" has plenty of tripped out tones bubbling around the sturdy, Lately bass-fed groove, while "The Red Face Roller" gets more playful with the synth lines without losing the steady, sleek rhythm section. "Start Again" switches the mood but retains the palette, making great use of a grinding bass note to anchor the sprightly blips and dubby bleeps up top. "Leg Le Friend" goes further into the influence of early UK techno with its ethereal pads and intricate melodic elements, capturing the kind of vibe you might have heard on Likemind with a cheeky modern twist.

Cat: SUSH 04.5. Rel: 26 Oct 20
  1. Baseline 87' (6:46)
  2. Musik For The Dancefloor (6:24)
Review: The Sushitech festivities continue unabated with this bittersweet repress of an all-time classic from the much-missed Detroit figurehead Mike Huckaby. 'Baseline '87' ranks amongst his most fabled works, riding as it does around an irresistibly catchy square wave bass hook and one of those no-nonsense beats that the legendary producer did so well. For the sound of Huckaby in full flight though, 'Musik For The Dancefloor' on the flip soars thanks to the interplay between the pads and chords while retaining that steadfast focus. In memory of a true dance music hero, why not revisit a classic that should be comfortably sat in every record bag?

Review: Up next on Nick Curly & Gorge's 's 8 bit imprint is another killer three tracker by the ever impressive Dutchman Franky Rizardo, hot off the success of the X Marks The Spot and Glow EP's released over the last 12 months to much fanfare. While most of the world's nightclubs remain closed for the foreseeable future, there's no doubt that 'Dusty Mornings' will go down a treat on makeshift living room dancefloors with its deep and sensual groove. But come next year when we hope for a return of normality, the B side stompers 'Gritty Fuze' and 'Spirit Walk' respectively are sure to bang the party with their slick UK tech house influenced style

  1. Out Of Time (9:45)
  2. Out Of Time (Patrice Baumel mix) (8:30)
  3. Out Of Time (instrumental) (9:44)
Review: Well, we're used to hearing Sasha on some progressive tip or, at least, bouncing around in the same space as labels like John Digweed's Bedrock, but here we have proof that the veteran producer is still out to diversify his sound and reach new audiences. The long-time DJ and producer steps up on Cologne's mythical Kompakt stable with "Out Of Time", a magnificently suave and laid-back house bombshell guided by the man's unmistakable prog-flex; this is the sort of gear you want to hear as you step into the dance and sip that first cocktail... a certified mood changer. On the flip we're graced with a few tenacious remixes; Patrice Baumel delivers an eight minute rework of the original, this time filtered through a much housier sort of guise that reminds us of the twilight hours on the Balearic islands' sandy beaches. Check the instrumental too - it'll be a useful DJ tool for sure.

  2. Ruler Of The Line (7:26)
  3. Legend Of Outer Pace (6:54)
  4. Legend Of Outer Pace (Tyu remix) (7:08)
Review: Sobek is a name familiar to those who like their tech house stripped back, and now the man born Marton Csere brings his underground funk to Germany's Monaberry. 'Casio Samples' is a track that traps you in a state of trance thank to its looping bassline that is forever tumbling away, while crisp drums keep things moving. Add in withering sci-fi pad and you have a superbly futuristic sound. There are deeper, water more heads down grooves in 'Ruler Of The Line' and tripped out delights on 'Legend Of Outer Pace' while a Tyu remix of this one brings some weird and wonderful design to a fine EP.

  1. Object (5:08)
  2. Object (Terremoto remix) (6:29)
  3. Down The Spiral (6:14)
  4. Signal (6:11)
Review: Andrey Zots builds on his previous appearance on EYA Records with this full-fat EP of fresh, playful and bubbling dancefloor freakery. 'Object' has a punchy electro tint to it, plus more than a little wave weirdness in its sound palette. Terremoto runs with this vibe by ramping up the analogue synth tones and making a bass-led beast of a remix. 'Down The Spiral' gets into freaky territory with some awkward, slanted bleeps and an overall nervy atmosphere, while 'Signal' works up an acidic sweat that should appeal to those lucky enough to be dancing in a dungeon.

Review: Steve O'Sullivan's work as Bluetrain ranks amongst the finest distillations of sleek techno minimalism and spatial dubwise sonics. As part of Sushitech's 15th anniversary celebrations, they're doing us all a massive favour by revisiting their comprehensive compilation of the finest Bluetrain joints, replete with a tasty coloured vinyl pressing this time around. The tracks are beyond sublime, riding steadfast, understated grooves, which underpin beautifully sculpted, metallic chord clusters that sink in easy but run deep. 9. Goodwill (feat cuthead) (5:04)
Review: Since breaking through a decade ago, Pierre Daniel AKA Pit Spector has spent much of his time collaborating with others, as a quick glance at his bulging discography will confirm. Because of this, it seems rather fitting that the Parisian producer's second full-length (his first dropped a decade ago) is full to bursting with tracks that were either co-produced with others, or feature guest vocalists. It's a move that guarantees plenty of musical diversity, with Daniel's glitchy, tech-house grooves variously being fused with elements of swing-time jazz (San Proper and Dandy Jack hook-up 'Sympatico'), deep acid ('Layback', with Tin Man), hip-house (Dave-Aju-sporting number 'Love Love'), bass-heavy tech-funk ('Prospectin', featuring The Mole) and hazy, jazz-flecked deep house (Goodwill, where Uncanny Valley's Cuthead lends a hand).
