Former Twig and Manitou contributors 616 have been silent since launching their 616 Lab series of 12" singles back in 2019, making this typically stripped-back and mind-altering EP long overdue. We'll forgive them though, because there's some seriously good material amongst the four numerically titled tracks on show. '212' for example, is a deliciously squelchy and spacey chunk of off-kilter tech-house-funk, while '186' adds chiming, Brown Album-era Orbital style melodies and acid lines to a hybrid electro/techno beat. The fun continues on the flip, where the UKG influenced acid two-step of '229' comes followed by the doom-laden sci-fi techno stomp of '189'.
