Review

You can always rely on France's P&D to supply us with the fine deep house runnings from the 90s, and this latest reissue from Alton Miller's Aphrodisiac project is full proof that they are the unchallenged kings in that domain. The Rare Source EP was first released back in 1996, at a time when the dubby end of the house spectrum was at its peak, and when the term 'deep' really stood for something on the dancefloor. As such, these 4 killer cuts are built for total domination, starting with the excellent "Earthwhispers" and its tribalesque swing, followed by the dustier, more bass-heavy bumps of "Ain't No". "Brazil", kicking off the flipside, has got that classic Chicago feel, a hypnotic flow of melodies wrapping over booming kicks and deep low frequencies, while "De La Sol" unleashes a gorgeous slew of stuttering melodies and itchy vocal samples that render this EP a milestone of the late 90s house scene. Unmissable.
