BBC Radiophonic Music (reissue) vinyl

It's hard to articulate just how pioneering the BBC Radiophonic Workshop was. Formed in 1958 to create incidental sounds and new music for radio broadcasts, and later television, it would wind up, somewhat inadvertently (or at least the original members probably didn't realise what they were doing in a wider context) paving the way for a wealth of creative exploration in electronic sounds - those involved helping people understand and hear what was and might be possible.

Listening back to much of the output it's remarkable just how complex and innovative things were, even in the earliest days. There's stuff here crying out to be sampled, looped and repurposed, other bits you're talking about noises that still sound like bleeding edge experimental ambience. A remarkable achievement, without much of what's here we would not have loads of what's with us today.
