There's a slight disconnect between British Sea Power the sound and British Sea Power up close and personal. Theirs is a rock 'n' roll style that's more mainstream and open-armed than edgy and obtuse, but they more than make up for that universal appeal with on-stage antics that have health and safety crews hitting the panic button.
Which isn't to say their guitar noises can't incite riots. As the uptempo, rousing, riff-heavy opener 'It Ended On An Oily Stage' proves. Even the day-to-day commentary, rolling bass and rhythms of 'How Will I Ever Find My Way Home' has a way of making you feel battle ready. Now reissued for its 15th birthday, coming packed with a ton of sessions for BBC 6Music deities Mark Radcliffe and Gideon Coe, alongside remasters, its impact has not waned since we first found each other.
