When Austrian Michael Langeder and Venezeulan Bernardo Risquez first emerged under the Different Fountains banner, the Brussels-based production unit sought the relative safety of augmenting their own productions with remixes from Madteo and Karen Gwyer. It may be that the acclaim for Shrimp That Sleeps, last year's superb debut LP for Meakusma, has given Different Fountains a new sense of confidence and creative freedom. Certainly, their latest 12" does not feel like it needs a remixer to capture the attention, with both their original tracks dovetailing down a path set someplace between the respective styles of Shackleton and The Durian Brothers. B side track "That Snake" is a particularly slithery proposition that really gets under the skin thanks to the additional vocal input of Ciska Thomas.
