Dwayne Jensen ranks as one of those unsung heroes of Detroit house and techno, active since the early days of the Belleville Three but never quite attaining the recognition some of his peers enjoyed. That's no statement on the quality of his sound though, as this latest release for new label Is/Was attests. The mood is varied throughout, but there's no mistaking the Motor City heritage of rough and bumpy house jam "Regain Your Soul" that opens up proceedings. "Mona Mi" is a more off-beat affair that uses cyclical progression to create a truly visionary slice of dance music. On the flip, both mixes of "Our House" aim straight for the jugular, whether you want the stripped down dub mix or the peak-time pump of the original.
