First released way back in 1976 and here appearing on wax for the first time in decades, Colombia Colly is the single greatest work of Jamaican toaster Pat Francis AKA Jah Lion. Francis was a talented mic man with a distinctive vocal style - a mix of gruff, patois-heavy proto-raps and scat style improvisations - but his recorded performances were rarely as incendiary as his performances at dances. It took producer Lee 'Scratch' Perry to get the best out of him, which he did and then some on Colombia Colly. The dub style backing tracks provided by Perry were amongst the best of his Black Ark period and made extensive use of re-played and re-framed riddims previously heard on his productions for the likes of Max Romeo, the Heptones and Junior Murvin.
