Southern Soul singer Jeff Floyd has been chipping away for years without ever breaking through, though his albums are always held in high regard by committed soul fans. Here, City of Dreams attempt to give his career a boost by reissuing "Don't Leave Me", the B-side of his 1984 debut single "Best of Friends". A smooth but loose, synth-laden boogie gem, it sounds like what it is: an overlooked jam that has long been considered something of a slept-on classic. This sumptuously packaged 12" reissue also features a previously unheard "Dance Edit", which - somewhat surprisingly - is a little shorter than the original, but decidedly punchier. We'll leave you with one last impressive fact: Floyd not only wrote, produced and sung the track, but also played all of the instruments.
