The acclaim laid at the feet of John Heckle in response to releases on Mathematics, Tabernacle and Signals has clearly lead the way for some of his fellow Liverpudlians to emerge from the shadows and display their own music making talents. Step forward Mark Forshaw, who debuts fully on the underrated Tabernacle operation having collaborated with Heckle and fellow Liverpool club fixture Binny as the Phantom Planet Outlaws earlier this year. The Atavism EP contains five tracks of raw analogue house and techno throwdowns characterised by a loose improvised feel that certainly put to full use Forshaw's apparently envious array of studio gear. Special mention to "Dirt On The Trax" which contains the best manipulation of x-rated samples since "Look Hear Watch" from Omar S. Releases such as this add credence to Heckle and his cohorts own statements regarding the wealth of untapped production talent currently bubbling away in Liverpool.
