Since launching in 2014, Pinkman offshoot Charlois has been responsible for a range of weird, wonderful and decidedly left-of-centre records from the likes of Dollkraut, Roberto Auser and Timothy J Fairplay. Their latest release comes from Nick Lapier's Metropolis, a project inspired by the stylish darkness of film noir. All three tracks fit this brief, with opener "Uberall Polizei, Nirgrendwo Gerechtigkeit" offering a deliciously spooky, evocative trip into Nitzer Ebb style EBM territory. "Kriegdienstverweigerer" (try saying that while drunk) has a similar ethos, though feels more immediately floor-friendly thanks to techno-style rhythm patterns and bolder synth riffs. Finally, "Unify" is a bit closer in feel to the psychedelic, weirdly exotic early '90s work of Psychic Warriors Ov Gaia, and "Brown Album"-era Orbital.
