Bizarrely, much of the online chatter surrounding Kenny Dixon Jr's latest album has not been about the music itself but rather his decision to release it digitally. It's a sideshow but what we should be focusing on is the music itself, which is - superb. Check, for example, heady opener "I'll Provide", where his usual hazy vocals and sumptuous musical touches are contrasted by raw drums and distorted electronic lead lines, and the skewed, reverb-laden drums, Prince style bass and Syclops-esque electronic noises of "I Think Of Saturday". Smoother, deeper and jazzier house grooves are provided via "If I Gave U My Love" and the pitched-down delight of "Deeper Shadow", while standout "Sinnerman" is the kind of sultry, ultra-deep slow jam that's capable of melting even the stoniest of hearts.
