On Drape, veteran Belgian producer Geoffroy Mugwump continues to explore the middle ground between electronic music and left-of-centre rock. He's been here before, of course, with 2016's Unspell beginning this dramatic shift from new beat and cosmic disco-influenced pastures. The album was recorded over nine months with the assistance of Mugwump band members Stephane Fedele (bass), Thomas Stadnicki (guitars) and Lukas Melville (drums). As a result, the majority of the tracks draw greater influence from shoegaze, psychedelic rock, new wave, post-punk and '80s indie-pop, with Geoffroy's beguiling electronics and gravelly half-spoken, half-sung vocals catching the ear throughout. The fact that the whole thing works so well and makes perfect sonic sense is testament to Geoffroy's growing confidence in his hybrid, left-of-centre approach.
