Any guesses for just what in the hell they put in Detroit's water supply? For a town of relatively modest proportions it has contributed some of the most dominant sounds in 20th and 21st Century music, certainly if we look solely at the North Atlantic-European axis and discount the global majority living outside the wealthiest part of the world. Negative Approach may not really be recognised on that kind of level, but arriving after Motown and before techno, they represented one of the leaders of the city's underground.
In many ways they helped create the term hardcore. Taking punk just that few vital steps beyond where punk was and usually is considered to be, it's a spiky, pissed off, juggernaut sound that takes no prisoners, born as much from blood spilt as the relentless drive of oil-greased machinery.
