Over the last few years, Honolulu label Aloha Got Soul has done a terrific job in highlighting the distinctively soulful, sun-kissed lilt of Hawaiian music old and new. Here the label welcomes back local lad Nick Kurosawa, a singer-songwriter whose 2018 album Home remains one of the imprint's most magical releases. In fact, these two superb cover versions were first showcased on that set, though this is the first time they've featured on a seven-inch single. On side A you'll find Kurosawa's brilliant acoustic soul interpretation of Sam Cooke classic 'I'll Come Running Back To You', a stripped-back interpretation brought to life by the artist's superb lead vocal. On the flip he delivers a similarly sparse, soulful and richly emotional version of Bobby Caldwell's 'What You Won't Do For Love'.
