Pager Records head honcho, and Frankfurt-based DJ-producer Phil Evans sounds as if he should be making 70s soul music while, in fact, he's very much active in the German house and tech scene. This new EP drops on the Twig label, marking the imprint's third outing to date. Evans kicks things off with the aptly named "Kickslide", a wonderfully pumping, steely house flex marked by a harmonious backdrop of starry synth chirps and spaced-out pads - and by word does it flow well! "Chopine" starts the flipside with with a slower, more torn-up groove that flows majestically from the very first synth wave to the last mechanical beat, and "Roofy Speciale" heads way down low into the abyss of deep house, eventually surfacing a nicely rolling, club-centric groove for the heads. Nice, chunky analog groovers for your xmas cheer!
