By now, we should all know exactly what to expect from Luke Slater's long-running Planetary Assault Systems project, namely heavy, forthright, mind-mangling music that combines the weight and intensity of European techno with the sci-fi intent and stargazing synth sounds of the Detroit records that first inspired him. That trademark sound - intense, percussive, often psychedelic - is on full display on Sky Scraping, his first album under the alias since 2016. Uniformly breathless, sweaty and club-ready, the set's many highlights include the acid-powered tribal techno surge of 'Give In', the sonic meteor shower that is 'Bang Wap', the trippy, deep space hypnotism of 'Labstract' and the warped, metallic and otherworldly shuffle of 'The Drag Train'.
