The combined Bear Funk talents of Steve Kotey and Damien Manestar form the basis of Puller, with Sentimental Feelings providing an analogue heavy jitter funk debut release for the Valley Sounds imprint. The title track is a calling card for the respective strong points of Kotey and Manester, with the latter's slick manipulation of keys riding the heavily dubbed rhythms of Kotey's percussive leanings with aplomb. Certainly more aligned with the rough edged beginnings of house music than glistening pristine disco, Ray Mang is on hand to swerve "Sentimental Feelings" back towards the latter on his remix. Filled with floating keys and angelic pipes, it's the rubbery bassline that impresses most, until Mang unleashes a mammoth piano thrust that is. The proto vibes continue on the flip, as "For Eva" swiftly builds a raw head of steam, using a few key elements to punch home its intent. Fans of Mark E will no doubt recognise his gloopy remix (mis-credited as Chicken Lips) from a recent Ghostly Intl podcast and will be delighted at the chance to own it on vinyl.
