With pounding, tribalistic drum rhythms and cascading vocal chants, Pulsallama's self-titled debut LP certainly knows how to make a rousing first impression. Sounding a bit like what might happen if Trash Kit and Tom Tom Club went on a boozy summer holiday with Peggy Sue, it sets the tone for the remainder of the album. Eccentric, upbeat and rowdy indie rock 'n' roll that's as beguiling as it is party-starting. Even at the looser, swing-out ends of the tracklist - 'Trash' - the energy is palpable, giving some idea as to what it would be like to catch the band getting stuck in on stage. Elsewhere, the playfulness of 'The Devil Lives In My Husband's Body' contrasted with the aforementioned powerhouse opener, 'Ungawa Pt III (Way Out Guyana)', only serves up further evidence of how coherent the troupe's equally oddball sides are.
