Talk about self-awareness. Rose City Band profess to play 'some laid-back strums', and it's pretty much impossible to come up with a more accurate description for the Portland, Oregon troupe. Quite the fitting sound considering the city's reputation for relaxed and open-minded attitudes, you'll struggle to hear much that jangles and rolls out blues-psyche-rock with this much seemingly effortless ease. Opening on 'Only Lonely' (not to be confused with Roy Orbison's similarly-named classic, or indeed the eponymous John Candy movie), there's a country air to the six strings and snare-topped drums. Things become more expansive on fare like Dire Straits-leaning 'Wee Hours', riffs echoing well beyond the track's rhythmic chug, with that uptempo pace maintained throughout most of a record we'd file under timeless, sun-kissed and earthy rock 'n' roll.
