Reuniting in 2015 after 14 years in the wilderness, Royal Trux represent all that's great and good about American alternative rock music. Resolutely experimental, obsessively explorative, prior to their disbandment the troupe were renowned for being unafraid to call on a multitude of aural references, and nothing has changed since they decided to give it all another go. As is proven in this collection of recorded ideas which span the outfit's 30-year career.
So you have garage roughness in 'White Stuff', psychedelic funk on 'Shockwave Rider', and blues-tinged business on 'Stevie (For Steven S)'. Throw in moments of cacophony-fuelled punk ('The Flag'), acoustic tenderness ('Junkie Nurse'), and staccato stomp ('Call Out The Lions'), and it should be plain to hear - even if this is your first encounter - why Neil Hagerty and Jennifer Herrema's celebrated project had and continues to have such a huge impact on peers and proteges alike.
