First heard on Andrew Weatherall's triple CD Masterpiece release for Ministry of Sound, Scott Fraser's excellent ten minute "A Life Of Silence" gets a much deserved vinyl release via Lord Sabre's fledgling Bird Scarer imprint. The Glaswegian producer is no stranger to working with Weatherall, having contributed material to the Special Emissions label the self-confessed Luddite ran in the 90s, and is currently an integral part of the East London bunker studio from where Weatherall conducts business. "A Life Of Silence" fits the Bird Scarer template perfectly, a rugged, low slung chunk of 105 bpm machine funk that has an almost infinite quality to it, the heavily phased synths gradually coming to the fore and spiralling towards dissipation with hypnotic effect. Having opened proceedings on Bird Scarer with his own expansive epic, Timothy J Fairplay maintains his 100% appearance record with a superb self styled "Fall Of Shame" remix, straddling down a jagged guitar riff that recalls his stint in Battant, while teasing out the melodic subtleties with breathtaking results.
