1. | "Take Em Up" (Marcus Marr remix) |
The near perfect partnership of Nancy Whang's almost disinterested vocal delivery and Shit Robot's low slung synth funk marked "Take Em Up" as a true highlight of the latter's debut album. It must have been an easy decision for Miller and Murphy at DFA HQ to honour the song with a twelve inch release and they've surrounded it with some great remixes. Merc boss Mark E honours his roots with the Black Country Dub that replaces the jaunty disco vibe with a throbbing mechanical rhythm spread over eight minutes, a looped snatch of Whang's vocals joined by a rising choir of mind expanding synths as the track progresses. Some proper warehouse vibes from Mr E and further compelling evidence of his increasing prowess as a producer. Clocking in at just over nine minutes, the opposing remix from Brixtonite Marcus Marr begins in misleadingly wistful surrounds with Whang's vocals rising over a melancholic strings. It's when the thumping boogie beat finally locks in that the fun begins with Marr working in a surfeit of classic disco melodies.
