Formed of Johnny Chou, Joel Givertz, Adam Greenberg, Matt Reale, Dale Spollett and a host of musicians, San Fernando band Soul Scratch is a hard-hitting groove machine on a mission to save the world from mediocrity. In short, this is not your mother's soul band. Fans of the Paris DJs label operated by French funkateers Djouls, Grant Phabao, Loik Dury and Ben Hito should be familiar with their track "Pacified" as they have included it on compilations issued across digital and CD formats in the past year. Now "Pacified" makes it to vinyl as the lead cut on this killer 7" from US label Colemine; laid down as a positive message for people to seek change in their acceptance of violence and inhumanity, the furiously up-tempo "Pacified" follows a long tradition of protest songs within funk. Flip it over to hear Dale Spollett lay down a vocal masterclass to a midtempo horn-led arrangement on "Look How Far We've Come".
