Last year Amsterdam-based Soul Supreme served up one of our favourite albums of 2020, a self-titled exploration of dusty beats and colourful boogie synths that still sounds fresh after umpteen listens. Here he returns to action with a similarly excellent two-track seven-inch. A-side 'Huit Octobre 1971' is deliciously laidback, sweet and starry, with Bob James style electric piano motifs and spacey, sustained chords reclining over warm bass and loose-limbed, jazz-funk style drums. He gets more up-tempo on flipside 'Raid', layering more mazy electric piano solos and languid trumpet and sax solos over high-octane, jazz-dance influenced drums.
